It might be a team record. It at least must be close.
The Butte Muckers ran their winning streak to 19 games Sunday, beating the Belgrade Bandits B in a 6-4 thriller in the championship game of the Gallatin Valle Posse Roy McCauley Memorial Tournament in Three Forks.
The win marks the second tournament victory for the Muckers, who also won the Butte tournament two weeks ago. They also ran their record to 22-1, and the tournament saw them avenge their only loss of the season.
That lone loss came to the Bozeman Bucks B in the championship game of Helena’s Memorial Day Tournament. The Muckers beat Bozeman 8-6 to open the Posse tournament on Thursday. They then beat the Cody Cubs 8-3 before downing the Helena Independents 11-1 on Friday.
Butte beat the host Gallatin Valley Posse 6-2 on Saturday.
Noah Powers, who won the title game of the Butte tournament, pitched into the seventh inning for the victory. He struck out three and walked one, while scattering six hits.
Beau Henderson picked up the save.
Calvin Cunningham hit a double and a single, while Evan McEwen hit two singles and drove in a pair of runs to lead the Muckers offense. Grady Foley and Ryan Draper singled in runs, while Koyde Kjersten, Tegan Duffy and Bryson Hibbert also singled for Butte.
Kjersten and Cunningham each scored two runs, while Duffy and Foley scored once.
Shortstop Treigh Hollow second baseman Beau McGree made slick plays on the field. Jordan Scown made a late pinch-hit appearance and took one for the team in the form of a pitch off his back.
Hunter “The Legend” Davies spun a gem to beat Gallatin Valley on Saturday, while Cunningham mowed down the Independents and Scown got the win on the bump against the Cubs.
McEwen pitched five innings in the win over Bozeman. Henderson went two innings for the save.
Cole Solomon, who is also used on the bump for the Miners, and Tucker Kissell also contributed offensively and defensively for the Muckers.
Butte Motormen Zyler Petersen and Cohen Cohen Stajcar were both called up and ready if needed. The youngsters wore the Muckers uniform for the first time.
The Muckers will look to build on their winning streak and win their third tournament of the season next weekend in Missoula. That tournament begins with games against the Great Falls Chargers and Salmon Savages on Thursday.
Reece Cox, who had to work double duty filling in as coach of the Miners in the Helena tournament, is the head coach of the Muckers. He is assisted by Coyt Stajcar and Ethan “Easy” Cunningham.
