The Voyager Golden Record is a gold-plated phonograph record carried aboard the Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 spacecraft, launched by NASA in 1977. It was designed as a kind of time capsule for any extraterrestrial intelligence that might someday encounter the spacecraft. The record contains sounds, music, greetings in 55 languages, natural sounds from Earth, and 115 images depicting human life and the planet. It also includes a message from President Jimmy Carter and scientific information intended to help explain where the record —and Earth— came from, as well as how to locate Earth in the universe. The cover contains instructions on how to play the Golden Record, and a stylus was included to ensure capability. In essence, the Golden Record is humanity's introduction to the cosmos: a small snapshot of life on Earth sent aboard spacecraft that are traveling into interstellar space. 🖖📀🚀
