In an effort to keep the public informed on criminal activity in our county, this newspaper will soon begin publishing a monthly court report rather than providing coverage of an initial arrest report.

We have a responsibility to meet the expectations of the public in what is reported while maintaining integrity of how that is accomplished. As every individual has the fundamental right to due process, and should have the opportunity to defend their rights and have a fair hearing, only judicial cases that have been plead within our general sessions and criminal court will be included in the report.

The outcome information presented will also serve to represent the functionality of those representing the full judicial process of those who have been elected to protect the community, and administer justice.

This will exclude the publication of any initial charges or indictments for sexual crimes against children, homicide, or is considered to be an immediate matter of public interest at the discretion of the editor.

Any citizen with questions regarding this decision should contact the publisher, Amanda Hill Bond at 931-864-3675 or [email protected].

While your identity will be required to engage in discussion, everything will be confidential and will be conducted with receptive and respectful dialogue.

The P*P will soon have a website that will include a subscription service for E-Edition, along with advertising opportunities.
We hope to have it available beginning in January.

Plans are also underway to eventually digitize many of our archived photo collection. Our photo files begin in the mid 70's, and will first need to be identified using our newspaper binders. This project will be time consuming to complete. If anyone is interested in volunteering to assist with the tedious task of selecting photos and identifying, please contact Amanda Hill Bond.

It's time to "spring" that clock forward!

It's time to "spring" that clock forward!

Don't forget to "spring forward" one hour as daylight saving time officially begins Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m.! Tennesseans should use the opportunity to check the batteries of their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure these important devices are functioning.

Most fire fatalities occur at night while victims are sleeping. The harmful smoke and toxic gases generated by a home fire can cause people to sleep more deeply which reduces the likelihood of escaping a home fire. Working smoke alarms can alert a home’s sleeping residents thereby doubling the chances of survival by increasing the amount of time residents have to escape a house fire.

Need working smoke alarms? Request a FREE working smoke alarm through our "Get Alarmed, Tennessee!" program. Visit: https://survey123.arcgis.com/share/e33282a95b09472ca07404d53bc1ba2d?portalUrl=https://SFMO.maps.arcgis.com
