"The Measure of a Man"

Fellow believers, greetings in Christ’s holy name.

I’m Evangelist Bill King, Senior Pastor for our ministry, and on behalf of Elder Moses Drake Luswata and our Associate Pastors, we welcome you to our Saturday service. We pray the Good Lord is with you through your faith in Him, and that you are fully protected by the power of the Holy Spirit from all evil. In this we pray, in His holy name. Amen.

Associate Pastor Rasham Younas Mashie isn't feeling well today, and I am filling in for him with a short, but important message entitled “The Measure of a Man.” Ours is not a male chauvinistic ministry, so when I use the term “man,” I'm addressing humanity, both men and women. Bless you.

Our references are Acts 6:3-6, Acts 6:9-10, Acts 6:13-15, Acts 7:51-60, 1 Samuel 16:7, and John 15:13, as found in the New King James Version of the Holy Bible. Now on with our message:

While most comprehend the saying, “the measure of a man,” as literally speaking towards a man's actual, physical height, it's even more profound, geared more towards a man's level and degree of faith in God the Father and the Son, Christ Jesus; the moral fiber of a man's character and the way he exudes and shares the love of God within his heart towards his fellow man. In our Christian walks of faith, physical height, the overall length (measurement) of our bodies, is insignificant in relation to the measurement (level/degree) of our faithful hearts being fully engulfed by and empowered with the Holy Spirit.

Biblical scholars, archaeologists, and medical scientists hypothesize that Christ Jesus stood somewhere between 5 feet 1 inches and 5 feet 7 inches, based on known heights of first century Jewish men living during the time Christ Jesus was among us, determined through recovered skeletal remains. As a side note, the present-day global average height of a male is 5 feet 7.5 inches, while a female is 5 feet 3 inches, while the present-day average height of a male professional basketball player is 6 feet 7 inches, and a female professional basketball player comes in at 6 feet. The great degree of variance in height can be and is directly attributable to heredity or genetics, socio-economic influences impacting food and nutritional intake, as well as illnesses and diseases which exert profound influence on a body's growth. Even the average size (weight or measurement) of a person's heart, comparable to a clenched fist, with a male's heart weighing in at around 10 ounces, while a female's weighs in at around 8 ounces, is slightly greater than that of a first century male and female, based logically on present-day males and females being taller and heavier than were our first century counterparts.

But, if anyone is of the mindset that just because first century humans, Jewish men in particular, were less of a man than present-day, based on their physical stature, think again, for as I said in the beginning, it's not the physical height of a man that's most important in our Christian walks of faith. Rather, it's our level and degree of faith in God the Father and the Son, Christ Jesus; the moral fiber of our character and the way we exude and share the love of God within our hearts towards our fellow man.

Here's a prime example of my teaching this morning, that first century Jewish male believers and followers of Christ Jesus were very much “a man's man” when it came to standing firm in the face of religious persecution - Stephen, the first Christian martyr.

Stephen was among the seven chosen by the Jerusalem Apostolic Council to work and successfully resolve the issue between the Greek (Hellenistic) widows you complained that the Jewish widows were receiving more than their fair share of food items delivered daily to them for their sustainment. Christ Jesus’ disciples, who embodied the Jerusalem Apostolic Council, chose seven men to resolve the issue and bring a peaceful solution, so they themselves could be freed up to attend to other religious matters, for the Holy Bible says:

“Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business; but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.” And the saying pleased the whole multitude. And they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and the Holy Spirit, and Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas, a proselyte from Antioch, whom they set before the apostles; and when they had prayed, they laid hands on them.” (Acts 6:3-6 [NKJV])

Stephen, fully engulfed in the Holy Spirit, became known for his fiery preaching and miraculous wonders worked, drawing the ire of a certain sect known as “The Synagogue of Freedmen,' comprised of Cyrenians, Alexandrians, and those from Cilicia and Asia (Acts 6:9), who spoke out in opposition, but were incapable of and unable to “resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spoke” (Acts 6:10).

Angered, they conspired against Stephen, stirring up animosity and hatred towards him among the people, reminiscent of the Pharisees having done so against Christ Jesus, going on to have Stephen arrested and brought before a tribunal or council, even having false witnesses speak against him, as they did our Lord, for the Holy Bible says:

“They also set up false witnesses who said, ‘This man does not cease to speak blasphemous words against this holy place and the law; for we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth will destroy this place and change the customs which Moses delivered to us.’” (Acts 6:13-14 [NKJV])

And God showed himself unto all present, for the Holy Bible says, “And all who sat in the council, looking steadfastly at him, saw his face as the face of an angel.” (Acts 6:15 [NKJV])

When Stephen was allowed to respond to his accusers, he gave an accounting of God from the Abrahamic Covenant, through Moses, Jacob, David, right on down to Solomon building the first Holy Temple in Jerusalem. Then, Stephen told them exactly how evil and sinful in the eyes of God they truly were, saying to them:

“You stiff-necked and uncircumcised in heart and ears! You always resist the Holy Spirit; as your fathers did, so do you. Which of the prophets did your fathers not persecute? And they killed those who foretold the coming of the Just One, of whom you now have become the betrayers and murderers, who have received the law by the direction of angels and have not kept it.” (Acts 7:51-53 [NKJV])

The Holy Bible says his accusers were “cut to the heart, and they gnashed at him with their teeth” (Acts 7:54 [NKJV]). But Stephen, fully engulfed by the Holy Spirit, fearing not, the Holy Bible says:

“But he, being full of the Holy Spirit, gazed into heaven and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing at the right hand of God, and said, ‘Look! I see the heavens opened and the Son of Man standing at the right hand of God!’” (Acts 7:55-56 [NKJV])

In his accuser’s final act of retaliation against Stephen and all that was righteous and holy, they stoned him to death, as a Pharisee enforcer, Saul of Tarsus, who would go on to repent, be forgiven, and become the great and mighty Apostle Paul, looked on, as those who stoned Stephen laid their clothes at his feet. And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, ‘Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.’ Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, ‘Lord, do not charge them with this sin.’ And when he had said this, he fell asleep.” (Acts 7:58-60 [NKJV])

And such is the true measure of a man, that he stands strong in faithfulness to our Lord, even when by doing so death befalls him. Yet, when death comes, while fully engulfed by the power of the Holy Spirit, seeking God’s forgiveness upon those who take his life.
Referring to the Old Testament Book of First Samuel, chapter 16, God tells the prophet, Samuel, of what’s most important, not what’s outwardly visible to man, but what’s inwardly visible to Him:

“But the Lord said to Samuel, ‘Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.’” (1 Samuel 16:7 [NKJV])

And our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, teaches us that no greater love can be shown than that of a man laying down his life for that of his brothers and sisters, as He did for all of humanity upon the Cross of Calvary:

“Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” (John 15:13 [NKJV])

As we conclude, I leave you with this thought to ponder: What is the true measure of a man? Is it one's physical height, the physical size of their heart, or a man's level and degree of faith in God the Father and the Son, Christ Jesus; the moral fiber of a man's character and the way he exudes and shares the love of God within his heart towards his fellow man? How do we measure up? If when faced with religious suppression, oppression, and persecution, as so many of our Christian brothers and sisters throughout the world have been, are currently experiencing, and most certainly will live through in the future, will we face it fully consumed with the power of the Holy Spirit, without fear and hesitancy, as did Stephen, or denounce God thereby condemning our souls out of a foolishly unholy desire to cling to this life and world? Prayerfully ponder those questions, brothers, and sisters.

On behalf of Elder Moses and our Associate Pastors, we invite and welcome you to join us tomorrow, Sunday, September 21st, at 4:40 am (EST) for Worship Service #1, and again at 9:00 am (EST) for Worship Service #2; my message in our second worship service is entitled, "Father, I Have Sinned Against Heaven and Before You," speaking on the Parable of the Prodigal Son.

Now please join me in our closing prayer, and as always, go in peace.

Father God above us, the maker of all things great and small in both the heavens and upon earth, we give praise, honor, and glory unto You and Your Son, Christ Jesus. O that we have the faith and perseverance of Stephen when those with evil intentions come calling. Let us truly measure up to Your requirements as faithful believers in Your Son, and all that is holy and righteous, and may we find the love within our suffering and dying hearts to forgive those who have wronged us before the last precious breath of life is gone. In this we pray, in the holy and powerful name of our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus. Amen.

"Do Not Let the Sun Go Down on Your Wrath"

Fellow believers, greetings in Christ’s holy name.

We pray all is well, and you are engulfed completely in the blessings of God. Amen.

Anger is a normal human emotion, as is joy and sadness. Show me a person who doesn't succumb periodically to the emotion of anger, and I'll show you a true saint, for even our Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, experienced and displayed human emotions - after all, He was human and God-incarnate simultaneously.

Holy scripture tells us that upon drawing near the Holy City of Jerusalem for the last time in preparation of attending the Jewish "Passover" celebration, leading up to His arrest, passion, and crucifixion, while accompanied by His disciples, Christ Jesus cried over Jerusalem, for He knew most of the occupants, despite having witnessed and/or heard of His preaching, teaching, and miraculous wonders worked, would still fail to recognize and acknowledge Him as the true Messiah whom they had longed to arrive for countless generations, and most importantly, fail to realize their spirits were in peril of eternal damnation brought on by their failure and refusal to repent, accept, and believe. The Holy Bible says:

"Now as He drew near, He saw the city and wept over it, saying, 'If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation.'" (Luke.19:41-44 [NKJV])

Upon entering Jerusalem and proceeding to the Holy Temple, He encountered the money exchangers and merchants plying their trade within the entrance. Overcome with anger, He fashioned for himself a "whip of cords," and with it, ran them all out, physically and verbally rebuking them. For the Holy Bible says:

"Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. And He found in the temple those who sold oxen and sheep and doves, and the money changers doing business. When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables. And He said to those who sold doves, 'Take these things away! Do not make My Father’s house a house of merchandise!' Then His disciples remembered that it was written, 'Zeal for Your house has eaten Me up.'" (John 2:13-17 [NKJV])

We see by Christ Jesus' own words and actions that anger, when it rises within us, as stated, is a normal human emotion not to be suppressed. Rather, it must be vented and released, for bottling up such a strong emotion, suppressing and restraining it, can and will do more physical and emotional harm than good.

A true Christian's heart is to experience anger, then swiftly and completely release it, never once letting the sun set without our having done so, for as Apostle Paul teaches in his epistle to the Christians in the city of Ephesus, as found in Ephesians, chapter four:

“Be angry, and do not sin”: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil." (Ephesians 4.26-27 [NKJV])

This is the true Word of God, as written. Amen.

Bless you - go in peace.

"Simple Lies"

Fellow believers, greetings in Christ’s holy name.

I’m Evangelist Bill King, Senior Pastor of our ministry, and on behalf of Elder Moses Drake Luswata and our Associate Pastors, we welcome you to church. It’s our humble prayer that God injects a full dose of the Holy Spirit into our message this morning, as it focuses on the sin of lies and lying. In this we pray, in the holy and powerful name of Christ Jesus. Amen.

Before we begin, we have two prayer requests I kindly ask you to join with me in:

A follower of ours, Queenette, a resident of Lagos, Nigeria, has been through quite a serious health crisis as of late, requiring surgery and afterwards falling into a coma. We praise the Good Lord and are extremely thankful for His divine intervention in reviving her, and we do so pray that He touches her with His healing hands, thereby delivering her from all further sickness, suffering, and pain. In this we pray, in the holy name of Jesus. Amen.

Another of our followers, Joanes, a resident of Kisumu, Kenya, requests prayers regarding his need of sufficient funds to cover the school attendance fees for his two children. It’s our humble prayer before God the Father, through the Son, Christ Jesus, that his prayers shall soon be answered, thereby allowing for his children to return to school. In this we pray, Amen.

Bless you and thank you for praying with us.

Our message this morning is entitled, “Simple Lies,” and our references are 2 Timothy 4:3, 2 Peter 2:1-3, Matthew 24:23-25, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, Romans 16:17-18, Lamentations 2:14, Ezekiel 22:28, Jeremiah 14:14, Matthew 7:15-16, Ezekiel 13:9, Genesis 3:1-5, Genesis 3:8-19, Revelation 12:3-4, Isaiah 14:12-15, Revelation 12:7-9, Aesop’s fable, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” Leviticus 19:11, Proverbs 12:19, 22, 19:9, and Ephesians 4:25.

Now on with our message:

Someone near-and-dear to me, with whom I have an excellent relationship, recently shocked me to the core by saying that some people in a certain country, which I won't mention, adhere to and practice an ideology in their communications with others referred to as “Simple Lies,” going on to explain that “Simple Lies,” can and often does mislead their recipient(s), leaving them with a bad or false impression of the person speaking the “Simple Lies.” My response to the person near-and-dear, who shared this ideology with me was this: there are no such things as “Simple Lies” - a lie, is a lie, is a lie! For If there were such things as “Simple Lies,” then logically such would require a counterpart, its opposite, a “Difficult Lie.” And if “Simple Lies” and “Difficult Lies” exist, how does someone go about determining whether a lie is a “Simple Lie,” or a “Difficult Lie,” or the truth?” Who’s responsible for determining the difference between the two, the speaker or the recipient? In other words, if someone speaks a lie, how would the recipient know if what they’re hearing spoken is a “Simple Lie,” or the truth?

No, my brothers, and sisters, this person near-and-dear to me who shared such was and is sadly mistaken: there are no such things as “Simple Lies,” or “Difficult Lies,” for that matter - a lie, is a lie, is a lie!

We, as children of God, must never allow ourselves, anyone near-and-dear to us, or even perfect strangers for that matter, to erroneously believe in and adhere to such false ideology, especially if the person adhering to such false ideology is a minister of God’s holy Word, practicing, preaching, and teaching such false ideology from the pulpit. For if they do practice, preach, and teach such false ideology from the pulpit, they are practicing, preaching, and teaching false doctrine, categorizing them as “false prophets,” based on the biblical definition of the term, i.e., someone proclaiming messages that aren’t from God. “False prophets” are easily discernible; they are known by their bad (false) fruits (teachings, words, and actions) (References: Timothy 4:3, 2 Peter 2:1-3, Matthew 24:23-25, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15, Romans 16:17-18, Lamentations 2:14, Ezekiel 22:28, Jeremiah 14:14, Matthew 7:15-16, and Ezekiel 13:9)

If we allow them to do so; to be “false prophets,” without verbally and/or publicly rebuking them, we are said to be encouraging and supporting them in the spread of false doctrine. In other words, if we let such go without verbally and/or publicly rebuking them, then we’re complicit in their doing so, we’re just as much of a guilty sinner as they.

Holy scripture is vividly clear regarding lies and lying, i.e., being deceptive, manipulative, and dishonest with others, whether committed for the purpose of deceiving, concealing something shameful or private, or attempting to manipulate others out of money, position, or some ill-perceived sense of power and authority. Referring to the deception perpetrated against Adam and Eve by the Serpent in the Garden of Eden, leading to the “Fall of Man,” the “Original Sin,” let’s study the conversation between the Serpent and Eve, for the Holy Bible says:

“Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, ‘Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?’ And the woman said to the serpent, ‘We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’ Then the serpent said to the woman, ‘You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.’” (Genesis 3:1-5 [NKJV])

Those are “simple” words, a “Simple Lie,” spoken by the Serpent, the Devil, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” Very “simple,” yet blasphemous words, spoken with one intention in mind - to deceive. In the case of Adam and Eve, those “simple” words, that “Simple Lie,” brought God’s wrath down upon both in the form of God’s curse (Genesis 3:8-19), which still adversely impacts all of humanity.

A “Simple Lie” spoken by the Serpent, the Devil himself, the “Great Deceiver,” who once was the highest of all God’s angels. Allow me to explain what became of Lucifer, the “Morning Star,” as he was called back then:

“How you are fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground, you who weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: ‘I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above the heights of the clouds, I will be like the Most High.’ Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the lowest depths of the Pit.” (Isaiah 14:12-15 [NKJV])

Lucifer’s head grew to such enormous proportions that his vanity outweighed his good. He became so enamored with himself that he began considering himself as God’s equal, even further, desiring and pursuing to reign above God. Along the way, with his evil doings undoubtedly being fueled by his “simple,” yet highly deceptive, manipulative lies, Lucifer amassed quite a following of angels, one-third of God’s angels to be exact (Revelation 12:3-4).

God wouldn’t and didn’t stand for Lucifer’s insolence, swiftly dispatching the mightiest of His warrior angels, Archangel Michael, to handle the situation. Archangel Michael, along with the assistance of God’s heavenly legions of good angels, were successful in defeating Lucifer and his followers, for the Holy Bible says:

“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So, the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.” (Revelation 12:7-9 [NKJV])

Note: Where did Apostle John, the author of the Book of Revelation, as given to him by Christ Jesus, say the “Great Dragon” called the Devil or Satan, and his evil following of angels were cast? “He was cast to the earth.” So, brothers, and sisters, I caution anyone against bearing the false notion, or even worse, preaching and teaching that Satan, the Devil, and his evil angelic followers, his “Demons,” as they are presently known, are down in the depths of Hell (Sheol), for holy scripture is quite clear as to their current whereabouts - they’re very much alive and well, operating here on earth among us, as they have been since Archangel Michael and God’s legions of good angels defeated and expelled them from heaven onto the earth.

There’s an Aesop fable entitled, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” pertaining to our message this morning, as the main character in the fable, a young shepherd who continually cried out, “Wolf,” in seeking to draw attention to himself, used a “Simple Lie” to enact his purpose, and he paid a heavy price for doing so. Here’s a short synopsis of Aesop’s fable, “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”:

The young shepherd grew bored simply watching over and protecting his sheep. So, he devised a scheme wherein he cried out, “Wolf” repeatedly to amuse himself, relieving his boredom, for each time he cried out, “Wolf,” nearby villagers came running to his rescue. However, after being repeatedly duped by the young shepherd's antics, the nearby villagers soon turned a deaf ear. One day a real wolf appeared and began attacking and devouring the young shepherd’s flock. Naturally, of course, the young shepherd started crying out at the top of his voice, “Wolf, wolf, wolf!” But, the nearby villagers, logically assuming the young shepherd was up to his old tricks, were unresponsive to his frantic cries for help. The real wolf killed all the sheep, ate his fill, and departed, leaving the foolish, young shepherd to wallow in his own self-pity, brought on by his “Simple Lies.”

The moral of the fable: lying, whether a “Simple Lie,” or a “Difficult Lie,” is wrong - a lie, is a lie, is a lie. Involving one’s self in such only leads to and creates a loss of or a breach of trust, and as in the case of the young shepherd who cried out “Wolf” once too often, when he turned around and actually spoke the truth, the truth wasn’t perceived as being truthful - the nearby villagers, having grown weary of his “Simple Lies” turned a deaf ear to, and didn’t recognize the truth when he spoke it. Aesop’s fable of “The Boy Who Cried Wolf,” is a cautionary tale regarding the consequences of dishonesty, being dishonest, lying, stretching the truth.

Turning to Leviticus 19:11, the Holy Bible says, “You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.”

Turning to Proverbs 12:19, the Holy Bible says, “The truthful lip shall be established forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.”

Turning to Proverbs 12:22, the Holy Bible says, “Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who deal truthfully are His delight.”

Turning to Proverbs 19:9, the Holy Bible says, “A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who speaks lies shall perish.”

And last, but not least of God’s holy Word on the subject of deceitful, lying lips, we turn to Apostle Paul, in Ephesians 4:25, for the Holy Bible says, “Therefore, putting away lying, ‘Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,’ for we are members of one another.”

Brothers, and sisters, I truly hope and pray that this message puts an end to the false ideology of “Simple Lies.” Allow me to reiterate the point, then we’ll close: a “Simple Lie” is a lie, plain and simple. There are no such things as “Simple Lies,” or “Difficult Lies, there are only lies, and all lies are an abomination in God’s eyes. Bless you.

As we near our conclusion, if there is anyone with us now, or viewing this message later, who has yet to turn their life over to God, now is the time. If you desire to do so, of your own free will, it will be my honor and privilege to lead you to the Cross; please bow your heads and repeat this “Sinner's Prayer” with me:

Father God in Heaven: I come to you a sinner, seeking forgiveness and salvation, openly proclaiming You as Almighty God, and Christ Jesus as the sole means of redemption through faith in His divine power and authority, as per Your Grace. Forgive me my indiscretions and accept me into Your Heavenly kingdom upon my earthly demise. In this I pray in the Holy name of Jesus. Amen.

If you said this prayer with us in earnest repentance, then Christ Jesus has forgiven you of all your sins, and drawn you in as a child of His Father, and Elder/Advisor Moses, our Associate Pastors, and I welcome you into the family. Go forth now and seek a local minister or priest for the very purpose of water baptism we’ve just discussed, in accordance with Christ Jesus' instructions, and endeavor to embrace the teachings of this message; and may:

“The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26 [NKJV])

Now, please join us in our closing prayer, and as always, go in peace, brothers, and sisters.

Father God, we bring You honor, praise, and glory this morning, and to Your only begotten Son, Christ Jesus. Teach us to always be truthful. Let us come to understand right now, should we be so unwise, that there exist no such thing as a “simple,” lie, nor a “difficult” lie, for a lie, is a lie, is a lie, of which You find all such deceitfulness to be an abomination before Your sight. Help those, O God, who so foolishly believe, practice, preach, and/or teach such a false doctrine, for if not, someday soon, they may find themselves in the shoes of the “boy who cried wolf.” Bless this day, as only You can, O God, and be with us for its remainder. In this we pray, in the holy name of Christ Jesus. Amen.
