The Animation Guild, IATSE Local 839 (TAG), announces that three different groups of animation workers have declared they are forming a union with TAG this week. These campaigns underscore the significant momentum for labor organizing across the animation industry, from streaming features to prime-time productions to independent studios, the Union asserts.

After nearly two years of organizing, a group of 60 production workers at Netflix Animation Studios (feature productions) has submitted a request for union recognition to the studio.

“Production workers in animation deserve the same protections as artists — we deserve to fight for sustainable careers,” says Ana Tessier, production coordinator at Netflix. “I’m so thrilled that now we’ll have a seat at the negotiating table.

Toei Animation and Mercer Labs, Museum of Art and Technology, are proud to unveil ONE PIECE x MERCER LABS, an immersive exhibition celebrating the One Piece anime franchise. Hosted at Mercer Labs (21 Dey Street, Manhattan), the experience will open to the public on Thursday, October 9, and run through Sunday, November 30.

Prior to its official opening, a private preview of ONE PIECE x MERCER LABS will be held on Wednesday, October 8, for invited guests and media.

As the epic, supernatural anime showdown heads into its second weekend in North American theaters, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Crunchyroll have released a new character guide for Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle, offering fans who haven't yet caught the supernatural actioner a look at the key players. Infinity Castle debuted at No. 1 with a record-setting $70 million opening weekend, the highest for an anime feature in NorAm.

Based on the original manga by Koyoharu Gotoge (published in Shueisha's Jump Comics), Infinity Castle is directed by Demon Slayer franchise veteran Haruo Sotozaki from a screenplay by animation production studio ufotable.

Synopsis: Tanjiro Kamado — a boy who joined an organization dedicated to hunting down demons called the Demon Slayer Corps after his younger sister Nezuko was turned into a demon.

Comedy Central today announced that South Park will not air a new episode tonight as planned, and Season 27 will instead continue on Wednesday, September 24 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. Additional new episodes will roll out to the broadcast every other Wednesday: October 15, October 29, November 12, November 26 and December 10.

"Apparently when you do everything at the last minute sometimes you don’t get it done,” said series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. “This one’s on us. We didn’t get it done in time. Thanks to Comedy Central and South Park fans for being so understanding. Tune in next week!”

Last week, it was reported that the season's second episode, "Got a Nut," had been pulled from Comedy Central's re-run schedule due to its references to Charlie Kirk, the conservative advocate who was shot and killed while speaking at his "American Comeback Tour" kick-off event at Utah Valley University on September 10.

Today, Apple TV+ debuted the trailer for The Sisters Grimm, the all-new animated fantasy-adventure set to premiere globally on Friday, October 3.

Based on Michael Buckley’s New York Times bestselling book series, the 2D series follows mystery-solving sisters Sabrina and Daphne Grimm — descendants of the fairy tale chroniclers the Brothers Grimm — who, while very different, make a pretty great team.
Logline: Two orphaned sisters navigate a town full of people torn straight from fantasy and fairy tales, confronting heroes and villains alike, while investigating the mystery of their missing parents. The Sisters Grimm blends discovery, fantasy and adventure to deliver important lessons for all ages.

The voice cast features Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Sabrina, Leah Newman as Daphne, Laraine Newman (Saturday Night Live) as Relda, Abubakar Salim (Raised by Wolves) as Charming, Billy Harris (Ted Lasso) as Puck and Harry Trevaldwyn (How to Train Your Dragon 2025) as Mirror.

Rubble, the construction-savvy pup, will be wagging his tail for Santa this year when CBS and Paramount+ premiere A PAW Patrol Christmas on Nov. 28. This new hour-long special will feature a mix of original and classic holiday songs in a heartwarming story following a new adventure starring Rubble.

In the special, Rubble is looking forward to Santa bringing him a new laser drill, but things take a turn when Santa comes down with a cold and can’t deliver any presents. When Mayor Humdinger decides he’s going to the North Pole to take all the gifts for himself, it’s up to the PAW Patrol to stop him.

The holiday event is part of a previously announced slate of original hour-long PAW Patrol specials, each centering on a different pup, which will begin rolling out this fall with Valiente: A Tracker Story, premiering Friday, Oct. 3 (11:00 AM-12:00 PM, ET/PT) on Nickelodeon. The remaining specials will air on Nickelodeon in 2026, along with all new season 12 episodes of PAW Patrol.

L.A.’s Animation Is Film festival has unveiled the line-up for this year’s edition of the event (Oct. 17-19), featuring some of the most acclaimed animated features and shorts from around the world. The eighth edition of the prestigious event will feature Mamoro Hosada’s buzzy Scarlet, Annecy winners Arco and Little Amélie or the Character of Rain, as well as L.A. premieres of Le***an Space Princess, I Am Frankelda, Decorado, Chainsaw Man: The Movie Reze Arc, All You Need Is Kill and the Chinese 2D-animated blockbuster Nobody.

The event, which takes place at the TLC Chinese Theatre 6 in Hollywood, will also offer "making of" panels aobut Disney’s Zootopia 2 and Netflix/Sony’s mega-hit KPop Demon Hunters and a special 13th Anniversary 3D screening of LAIKA’s Halloween season favorite ParaNorman paired with the studio’s new short The Thrifting (set in the world of ParaNorman).

Kids' animation powerhouse PGS Entertainment today announced its latest production, Alien Dunk, a new animated series commissioned by TF1. At the heart of the series is French basketball star Victor "The Alien " Wembanyama, whose charisma and unique playing style have inspired the show’s main character.

"Victor is an ‘alien’ not only for his exceptional athletic abilities but also for the positive values he embodies off the court. These qualities make him a natural animated hero and the perfect centerpiece for Alien Dunk. Longtime kids' and animation executive Olivier Dumont has announced he is stepping down as President of Hasbro Entertainment, a role he has held since the company sold its Entertainment One (eOne) division, of which he was President of Family Brands for 13 years, in 2023. In a post to LinkedIn, Dumont shared he is exploring "new opportunities to build, lead and create."

Hasbro Entertainment is the content division of toy giant Hasbro, the rights holder for global hits and enduring brands including Peppa Pig, Transformers, My Little Pony and PJ Masks. Dumont's CV also includes his longtime role as CEO of Frog Box, the Paris-based animation studio behind PJ Masks.

The industry veteran's 30-plus years of experience also covers time with European players including TV Loonland (Managing Director), SIP Animation (Managing Director), Canal J (Head of Acquisitions & Co-Productions) and Europe Images International/Lagardère (Head of Business Affairs & Co-Productions).
