The freckle squad strikes again! I’m realizing my chickens are putting more effort into holiday aesthetics than I am.
These hens really said, “Don’t worry, we’ll handle the Christmas décor. You just try not to burn the cookies again.”

One of the girls decided to get crafty and do a little “finger painting” today.

Grateful for the sunshine and fresh air!
Nothing better than kicking back, sipping a Diet Coke, and watching the flock peck around and chatter like a bunch of little gossiping women.

Anyone else have a “special chicken” that might get a little extra attention? The hen running around outside of the run is an old Black Australorp hen. She doesn’t fit into any of our breeding projects. She doesn’t lay anymore so she doesn’t even provide breakfast! But she’s a special girl that we keep around. She loves sitting on laps and getting pets until she falls asleep. Love days that I get to sit out here and hangout with her for a bit. I pray she sticks around for many more years.

We hatched this BCM girl from Smith Haven Homestead from a beautiful brown egg with chunky black speckles. We had a couple pullets start laying this month and was excited to see this girl took on those nice speckles. Let me tell you, she is HEAFTY! Really looking forward to see how she progresses this year.

Edit: CLAIMED Very nice looking BCM cockerel. This is one of the three cockerels we held on to to grow out for a candidate for breeders. He’s beautiful and well tempered. It’s a hard decision between the three but we’ve decided to part with this guy. He would make a fantastic breeder for pure BCM lines.
