UPDATE ON OVERNIGHT CHASE THAT ENDED IN THE CITY OF CALHOUN; ONE ARRESTED: The Georgia State Patrol has released preliminary information on a chase that resulted in a large law enforcement presence in the city limits of Calhoun.

According to the GSP, on Friday night, June 5, 2026, at approximately 9:18 p.m., a Trooper from Post 43 Calhoun was patrolling southbound on Marine Drive in Gordon County. A 2019 Kia Forte, driven by a 25-year-old male from Calhoun, passed him in a No-Passing zone. The Trooper activated his emergency lights and siren to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle. The driver refused to stop and led the Trooper on an approximately 14-mile pursuit on multiple county roads and city streets.

After the suspect’s vehicle ran out of gas, he was taken into custody by Troopers inside the city of Calhoun. The suspect was found to be armed with a single shot pistol in his pocket, and a pistol and a shotgun in the vehicle. The suspect was charged with multiple traffic related charges, including Felony Fleeing and Driving Under the Influence.

🚨CONTINUING TODAY! ANNUAL DIXIE HIGHWAY YARD SALE!! The annual Dixie Highway Yard Sale, a 90-mile yard sale held first full weekend in June throughout Northwest Georgia’s Old Dixie Highway, will be held this weekend, Friday, June 5 – Sunday, June 7.

The yard sale is located along the historic driving route of Dixie Highway/Hey. 41.

‼️Traffic is expected to be heavy during the event, and motorists will be making frequent stops along the route. Travelers need to use extra caution over the three-day event.

TODAY WE COMMEMORATE THE 82ND ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY: On the evening of June 6, 1944, President Franklin D. Roosevelt broadcast a prayer for the Nation. At the time, war was raging in Europe, and Hi**er controlled most of it. Freedom and democracy were under assault around the world.

But on that day, hope landed on the beaches of Normandy, France, when 73,000 Americans joined the Allied forces to carry out one of the greatest military missions of all time — a mission that would become known as D-Day. Knowing the fate of the free world rested in their hands, President Roosevelt asked our Nation to pray for these courageous service members’ strength as they “set upon a mighty endeavor, a struggle to preserve our Republic, our religion, and our civilization, and to set free a suffering humanity.”

On this 82nd anniversary of D-Day, may we remember these service members for their bravery and sacrifice. May we honor their heroism, which liberated a continent and saved the world. And may we recommit to the future they fought and which many died for.

Today, we remember all the Americans who laid down their lives on D-Day to help end the tyranny of fascism across Europe, liberate oppressed people and ensure the flame of liberty would burn bright around the world. We owe these service members, who represent the greatest of the Greatest Generation, as well as their families, a debt of gratitude that we can never fully repay.
