Behold the 'Rutland Sea Dragon,' discovered in Rutland Water, UK, a magnificent ichthyosaur dating back approximately 180 million years to the Jurassic period.

This fossil, stretching over 10 meters, showcases an extraordinary spinal column and a remarkably well-preserved skull. Eons of geological pressure have sculpted its form, while the waters it once dominated have now surrendered its remains to our curious hands. Its cultural significance lies in bridging our understanding of prehistoric marine life.

A silent sentinel, it whispers tales of ancient seas, a poignant dance between the ephemeral nature of life and the enduring embrace of the earth. This 'Sea Dragon' embodies a paradox: a creature of immense power, now a fragile relic, a testament to natureโ€™s grandeur and the relentless march of time.

Behold the majestic Pyramid of the Sun, an imposing monument situated in Teotihuacan, Mexico. Its construction, believed to have commenced around 200 AD, marks a pivotal point in Mesoamerican history.

The pyramid's stepped structure, predominantly composed of earth and rubble faced with stone, testifies to the ingenuity of its architects. Centuries of exposure have etched their mark, yet the pyramid stands as a testament to resilience. It also serves as a focal point for cosmological beliefs and ceremonial practices.

Gazing at this ancient edifice, one cannot help but ponder the echoes of forgotten rituals and the indomitable spirit of a civilization intertwined with the cosmos. The Pyramid of the Sun beckons us to contemplate time, endurance, and the profound connection between humanity and the natural world.

A Highland New Guinean is shocked to see a white person for the first time in his life, in 1930. Before 1930, Highlanders thought they were the only living people in the world.

''We believed our dead went over there, turned white, and came back as spirits. That's how we explained the white man: our own dead had returned.'' Those were some of his words...

Papua New Guinea is a county in the region of Oceania, in Pacific Ocean. First settled tens of thousands of years ago, country's population now numbers 9.6 million. Due to its harsh geography, consisting of mountains, jungles, and isolated river valleys, the country is now home to 600 different tribes and hundreds of different languages.

According to researchers early inhabitants are believed to have arrived in Papua New Guinea about 60,000 years ago from aoutheast asia during an lce Age period when the sea was lower and distances between islands was shorter. New Guinea (as it used to be known), one of the first landmasses after Africa and Eurasia to be populated by modern humans, had its first migration at about the same time as Australia, placing us alongside one of the oldest continuous cultures on the planet. Agriculture was independently developed in New Guinea highlands around 7000 BC, making it one of the few areas of original plant domestication in the world. A major migration of Austronesia speaking peoples came to our coastal regions roughly 2500 years ago, along with the introduction of pottery, pigs and certain fishing techniques.

Intriguing Mummy Discovered in Peruvian Burial Site ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ๐Ÿ˜จ

An intriguing mummy has been uncovered in a burial site in Peru, found in a position with its hands shielding its face and secured with ropes.

In 2021, a group of archaeologists from the National University of San Marcos made this remarkable find in Cajamarquilla, an important archaeological area roughly 25 kilometers from Lima, the coastal capital of Peru.

Experts estimate that this mummy dates back between 800 and 1,200 years. While its unusual postureโ€”tightly wrapped and curledโ€”might initially seem disconcerting, researchers believe it represents a customary burial practice that was common in southern Peru.

The burial site also contained a wide variety of artifacts, including pottery, plant remnants, and stone implements

A timber and turf milecastle, and a stone one.

These pictures show reconstruction drawings of milecastles on Hadrian's Wall. The first one shows a timber and turf milecastle in the western sector, Harrows Scar Milecastle (Milecastle 49) near Birdoswald Fort. The western sector of Hadrian's Wall (west of the River Irthing) was originally built of timber and turf before being completed in stone at an unknown date.

The lower reconstruction drawing is of Milecastle 42 in the central sector, which along with the eastern sector, was built of stone.

Milecastles were fortlets that guarded a gate through the Wall. There were up to 80 of these, each at intervals of approximately one Roman mile, hence the modern name. Eventually the western sector's milecastles were replaced with stone ones that looked something like the lower picture. These drawings give you an idea of how they may have appeared in their day.

Underground caves lined with millions of shells, and no one knows who built them. The Shell Grotto in Margate, Kent, England, stands as one of historyโ€™s most baffling mysteries. Discovered in 1835, this hidden passageway is adorned with over 4.6 million meticulously arranged shells, forming elaborate mosaics that cover every inch of its walls and ceilings. The designs are precise and intricate, depicting symbols, patterns, and figures whose meanings remain shrouded in mystery.

What makes the grotto so compelling is that no one knows who created it, when, or why. Some speculate it dates back to ancient times, possibly as far as the Roman or Phoenician period, while others believe it was constructed in the medieval era or even the 18th or 19th century by an eccentric individual. Was it a secret temple, a meeting place for a hidden society, or a mysterious art project? Theories are abundant, but definitive answers are nonexistent. The Shell Grotto is more than just a stunning piece of craftsmanship; itโ€™s a riddle that continues to confound experts and captivate visitors from around the world.

They found him buried in silenceโ€”just bones in a mass grave, lost to the chaos of 1361. A nameless soldier, one of many who fell on that medieval battlefield. But centuries later, his face lives again.
Using forensic science and history, researchers rebuilt the contours of his lifeโ€”his brow, his jaw, the quiet strength in his eyes.
He likely knew the clash of steel, the mud of war, the weight of duty.
Now, his story is no longer faceless.
He is seenโ€”not just as a warrior, but as a man.
