As we clean up from the storm, it is looking as if the truck from the press will be coming a day late, so entering the mail Wednesday and hitting newsstands a day late, so Wednesday as well.

***POST OUTDATED*** Please see out page for the latest on the winter storm

A complex and messy winter storm affects the area through tonight. This system can be broken down into two phases, the first occurs this afternoon where there is a risk for rain showers to create slick spots on roadways south of I-94. With temperatures hovering very near the freezing mark, only a small change in the forecast could quickly change roadway impacts. Moving into tonight, a band of moderate to heavy snow sweeps across areas north of I-94, bringing 4-6 inches of snow by daybreak Wednesday. Snow amounts will be lesser to the south, but a quick increase in winds from the west-northwest, coupled with any falling snow, could quickly result in travel impacts from blowing snow and reduced visibilities. Bottom line, pay close attention to conditions today and especially tonight if you have travel plans.

Welcome to the Calmar Courier

Official Paper of Calmar, Fort Atkinson, Ridgeway, Spillville, Waucoma, Winneshiek County & South Winneshiek and Turkey Valley Community Schools.

Located amidst the bluffs of northeastern Iowa, the city and the newspaper alike trace their name to the Kalmar Sound on the southeastern coast of Sweden. The region draws upon a heritage of Scandinavian, German and Czech settlers. Owing first to the influence of the railroad, and later to the confluence of major highways in the area, the area is a hub for travel.

The Calmar Courier is part of the family of publications printed by Mid-America Publishing Corporation based in Hampton.

The Calmar Courier is joined by sister MAP newspapers with the Postville Herald and The Outlook in Monona, offering advertising potential to our customers as well as the possibility of expanded news coverage.
