I’ve been thinking a lot today, and I want to share something from the heart.
As many of you know, I’ve had the privilege of travelling across America over the years. From the smallest towns to the biggest cities, from coast to coast, I’ve met people from every walk of life. And if there’s one thing that has stuck with me, it’s this… America’s heart is good.
The headlines often try to tell a different story. Negativity, division, politics. It’s easy to get lost in it all. But when you’re actually there, face-to-face with everyday people, you see something else entirely. You see kindness. You see people opening their homes to strangers, sharing stories, laughter, and meals. You see resilience. You see neighbours helping neighbours, even when they don’t share the same opinions, beliefs, or backgrounds.
And on this day especially, the anniversary of 9/11, I’m reminded of that resilience and unity. I wasn’t in America when it happened, but I have spoken to a lot of Americans that tell me they saw how the country came together in grief, in strength, and in compassion. Out of the ashes of an unthinkable tragedy, there was light. People standing shoulder to shoulder, supporting one another, refusing to let hatred have the last word.
That spirit hasn’t gone away. I’ve seen it with my own eyes on my travels. It lives on in the small acts of kindness, in the big acts of bravery, in the everyday goodness that never makes the news.
This isn’t a political post… it’s a human one. So please don’t make it that with any political comments. No matter what side of the political spectrum someone falls on, I’ve found that people, at their core, want the same things. To love, to laugh, to raise their families, to live in peace. That is the America I know. That is the America I believe in.
So today, while remembering those lost on 9/11 and the families who still carry that pain, I also want to honour the best of America. The heart and humanity that shone through then, and that continues to shine through now.
To all my American friends… thank you for showing me your country, your kindness, and your spirit. Don’t let the noise drown out the truth. You are better than the headlines. You always have been. ❤️ - Jase
