Have you ever caught yourself asking, “Why us?”

If you’re parenting a child with autism, you’ve probably been there. We have too.

In today’s episode of Moms Talk Autism, we’re having an honest conversation about victim mentality, acceptance, and the mindset shifts that helped us move from surviving to living. We share personal stories, talk about finding joy in the middle of difficult seasons, and explore what happens when we focus our energy on the things we can actually control.

This isn’t about pretending autism is easy. It’s about reclaiming your power, finding purpose in the journey, and creating space for joy alongside the challenges.

If you’ve ever felt stuck, overwhelmed, or weighed down by the “why,” this episode is for you.

Sometimes when we look for the simplest joys it changes the vibe of a whole day. This morning I was fasting for a blood draw and of course couldn't have even black coffee, so when I was done I treated myself to a Starbucks drink. The woman working the drive-thru was very lovely and on receiving my drink she gave me a FIFA World Cup Starbucks branded sleeve. I'm sure they are giving them to everyone today as it’s the USA’s first game, but nonetheless, it brightened morning and I think I might just continue that “joy vibe” through the rest of my day!

Being a parent to a child with more exceptional needs can feel exhausting at times, but we choose the power we let it have over us, or if we let it empower us! Happy Friday y’all 🫶🏼🇺🇸⚽️❤️🤍💙

We blinked and here we are.

Congrats to our Tyler!

It’s an exciting and scary time, can’t wait to see what you discover about yourself, the world, and how you want to make it a better place.

Can you guess which part is her favorite?! 🤣 Ok, hear me out. I know this one’s long. I edited what I could, but I didn’t want to take out the harder parts that she had to work through.

I’ve said before that there were times that we never thought we would hear her voice. Speaking? Amazing. Reading? Phenomenal. Now putting those words to a tune (without any music)? Pretty spectacular.

Her sister is pretty amazing too 🥰

Wild how things can change. ❤️

One thing never changing? The blue tape. 🤣

On today’s episode of Moms Talk Autism, we’re diving into the conversation around autism “levels,” what they mean, what they often miss, and why autism can never be reduced to a single label or presentation. Every autistic child is different, every family’s journey is different, and support needs can look incredibly diverse.

We share our personal experiences navigating diagnoses, strengths, challenges, and the realities of raising children across very different autism profiles. We also explore the importance of moving beyond a purely deficit focused lens and making space for the whole child, their humanity, personality, joy, capabilities, and support needs alike.

Most importantly, we talk about the power of community, understanding, and creating space for honest conversations that reflect the full complexity of autism and family life.

Parenting neurodivergent teens comes with its own beautiful complexity. In this episode of Moms Talk Autism, we sit down with Jessica Shaw, journalist and host of “Everyone Gets a Juice Box,” to talk honestly about the challenges, growth, advocacy, and unexpected joy that can come with raising kids who experience the world differently.

From navigating adolescence to finding connection and community, this conversation is full of insight, humor, and reminders that none of us are doing this alone.

500 therapies. Zero clear answers.

We brought back researcher Jonathan Alderson to help us cut through the noise and get honest about what actually matters when it comes to supporting our kids.

Because this isn’t about chasing every intervention on the internet.
It’s about understanding your child, your family, and what truly fits.

In this episode, we talk about:
• The pressure that comes after diagnosis
• Why “more therapy” isn’t always better
• How family dynamics shape outcomes more than people admit
• Choosing supports that align with your values, not just trends
• Frameworks like the readiness model and PACT that actually help make sense of it all

And as always, we keep it real—the wins, the overwhelm, and everything in between.

If you’ve ever felt like you’re throwing darts in the dark… this one’s for you.
