And I ask God to continue doing His work in David.

We read Psalms, we play gospel music, and I’ve done that with them since they were babies.

And covering my children spiritually is fundamental to how I raise them.

Because one day Mama won’t always be in the room.

But I want them to always know Who is.

Sometimes the random nights really do become the best memories.

First stop: Target for blankets, snacks + a few things to make the night feel extra special 🎯 Then we drove out to Warwickdrivein for their first drive-in movie experience under the stars ✨

Honestly, this was such an easy family night and the kids LOVED it. Sometimes you really don’t need a big plan — just a Target run and somewhere new to explore. 🥹

10/10 would do this again.

Almost ruined the first day of school before it even started by almost putting SMOKES PAPRIKA in the pancakes instead of cinnamon 😭 tell me you’re still half asleep without telling me.

Also, drinking game: take a sip every time we say “first day of school” in this vlog 😂

David’s transition was actually so smooth. We did our morning routine visuals, read our First Day of First Grade book, and I even sent the book to school with him just in case they needed a little extra familiarity during the day.

And yes, my kiddos went to school with sirloin steak + cilantro rice for lunch just because why not!…

We’re still in the middle of the lawsuit and figuring out what school is ultimately going to look like for David… but for right now, we’re making the best of it.

And knowing these two are literally separated by ONE wall at school makes my mama heart feel so much better. 🥹

Having them together just makes everything feel a little easier.

Did I Instacart a couple things at 10pm? Yes.
Will they wake up with labeled supplies, a cute healthy snack and everything they need? Also yes. 😂

Currently trying not to cry because part of me wants to homeschool so badly… but the reality is, I have to work. Maybe one day. Just not yet. 🥲

Healing my inner child one unnecessary rainbow pencil at a time.

With our autistic + ADHD kiddos, sometimes we have to stop asking them to sit still and start learning what their body is asking for.

David kicks and plays with this band under his feet almost the entire time he’s working — but look at his focus. 👀

That movement gives his body somewhere to put that need to move while he stays engaged with the task. Same reason we use gum for oral sensory input.

The goal isn’t always less movement.

Sometimes it’s finding the kind of movement that helps them learn. 🤍

My autism mom concerns before today:

Today I was lowkey worried about the dumbest little things 😂 like is David even going to wear these pants? He basically lives in shorts and sweats and honestly we haven’t pushed regular pants much because with his fine motor skills, I want the bathroom to stay as easy as possible for him, especially at school.

Then the shoes… which have been SUCH a struggle for us because this child would take every single pair off. But this summer he has kept his shoes on probably 95% of the time and I’m reallyyyyy hoping that carries over into school. He kept these on ALL day. 👀😍

And then the belt lol. First thing out of his mouth was basically absolutely not. But once I explained that we were going to a wedding and we had to dress fancy, he was totally fine with it.

And I don’t know, maybe to somebody else this is literally just a kid putting clothes on. But I see all the little things behind it. I see how much more he understands now, how much more we can explain things to him, how much more he’s willing to try.

He’s growing so much right in front of me.

Thank you God.
