● The University of Islam No. 20 is a Pre-K through 12 (Non-Public) School.

It teaches the 3 R's (reading, writing & arithmetic), astronomy and general knowledge of civilization with a strong emphasis in discipline while building a moral and spiritual foundation.

● BRIEF HISTORY

The University of Islam was set up in 1934 by The Honorable Elijah Muhammad and The Nation of Islam in Detroit Michigan.

That same year, Messenger Muhammad, in great exemplary character, commtted himself to jail in Detroit after learning that the Michigan Board of Education had arrested the Muslim Teachers and the Secretary of the Temple on false charges of contributing to the delinquency of minors, for pulling Muslim children out of P***c Schools.

The false charges were later dropped, and the teachers were freed and Messenger Muhammad was given 6 months' probation to put the Muslim children back in public schools. This he did not do and he moved to Chicago in September of that same year.

The schools were greatly supported by his wife, Sister Clara Muhammad, who was considered the "First Principal."

By 1975, there were over 50 or more schools set up accross this country where major Temple's (Mosque) of Islam had been established. Messenger Elijah Muhammad had set up "A National School System."

After the departure of Messenger Elijah Muhammad in 1975, his son, the late Imam Warith Deen Muhammad, who assumed leadership of the Nation of Islam, renamed the schools after his mother, "Sister Clara Muhammad Schools.'
