So apparently I can write cookbooks, build an app, live off-grid with Parkinson’s...

…but put me on live TV with pancakes and all bets are off. 😂

I had such a good time on Good Day Sacramento, but yes, I absolutely messed up the pancakes a little.

Live television is a very special kind of chaos because there is no pause button, no “hang on, let me try that again,” and no hiding when your brain decides to take the scenic route.

Still worth it.

Still had fun.

Still cooked.

And honestly, if the pancakes survived me, they can survive anybody. 😂

Book 5 comes out Sunday.

And this one is a little different because I asked you guys what you wanted.

I asked what would actually help.
What you struggled with.
What kinds of adaptations mattered.
What you wanted to see in a Parkinson’s cookbook.

Then I built the book from there.

This Should Be Easy V: Still Cooking
Adaptations, Independence, and the Occasional Flying Spatula

So this one really does have a little bit of all of you in it.

Cooking with Parkinson’s tip:
Put a slightly damp towel under your cutting board.

It helps keep the board from sliding around while you’re chopping or prepping, which can make things a little safer and a lot less frustrating.

Tiny adaptation. Big difference.

Just make sure the towel is flat underneath so the board stays stable.

Felix Approved: Camp Roozy Happy Hour 🧀🐾

We had the good cheese.

Which meant Felix suddenly became extremely invested in happy hour.

He may turn his nose up at plenty of things, but apparently quality cheese deserves his full attention.

Very discerning little man.

Watching The Ghost and the Darkness and the baboons started screaming on the TV.

Mimsy immediately had QUESTIONS. 😂

Was she terrified?

Was she preparing to defend the house?

Was she trying to figure out why there were suddenly angry baboons in Camp Roozy?

Honestly, could’ve been all three.

She was very concerned.

A little book promo from Camp Roozy. 📚🌲

Most of these books were written right here in the woods, with dogs underfoot, generator noise in the background, and Parkinson’s changing the rules on me as I went.

The whole This Should Be Easy series started because cooking wasn’t always easy anymore, and I got tired of pretending it was.

Book 5 comes out September 27.

This Should Be Easy V: Still Cooking
Adaptations, Independence, and the Occasional Flying Spatula

It’s about finding ways to keep doing something I love, even when my hands, brain, balance, or energy decide to be difficult.

Still cooking. Still adapting. Still occasionally launching kitchen utensils. 😂

Getting ready for winter at Camp Roozy. 🍂🪵

The firewood is chopped and stacked.

A friend came up with his skid steer and helped us spread the wood chips.

And maybe the biggest victory of all...

The dreaded driveway lakes are filled. 😂

Every winter out here has its own little list of things that need to happen before the rain and cold really settle in. This week we actually made a pretty good dent in it.

Off-grid life is not always glamorous, but a stacked woodpile and a driveway that might not turn into a swamp are pretty damn satisfying.

Today was weird.

On one side of my day, I was sending out beta testing links for an app I built.

On the other side, I was filling out disability appeal paperwork explaining all the things Parkinson’s has made harder.

Memory.
Walking.
Driving.
Cooking.
Medication side effects.
The stuff I can’t reliably do anymore.

There is something very strange about building something new while simultaneously documenting all the ways your body is changing.

Both things are true.

I can be struggling.

And I can still be creating.

Today was apparently both.

Today was a pretty damn cool day.

After all the building, fixing, breaking, fixing again, yelling at technology, and questioning my life choices...

What’s in the Fridge? is working.

Google sign-in worked. The app opened. And I sent the testing links out to my Android testers.

It’s still in testing, so there’s more work to do, but seeing it actually WORK on a phone was one of those little holy-crap moments.

I started this because cooking with Parkinson’s can be hard enough without also standing in front of the fridge thinking, “What the hell can I make with this?”

Apparently my solution was to build an app. 😂
