Twenty Years Before and After — A Poem,
A Life, A Liberation

Some poems exist—
not just to be read,
but to quietly knock on an invisible door of life.

Rafique Azad’s “Twenty Years Before and After” is exactly such a poem.
Why this poem is so dear to me, I still cannot fully explain.
Perhaps hidden within it is a memory
that has silently accumulated inside all of us.

“You talk when you cease to be
at peace with your thoughts.”
— Kahlil Gibran, The Prophet

A powerful poet of the 1960s, Rafique Azad—
who made language rebellious,
and love restrained yet intense.
At the age of 75, he departed for a land of no return,
but left behind poems
that still speak within us.

This poem holds the mispronunciations of adolescence,
carelessness with language,
the innocence of a shy girl—
and from that innocence
is born a silent love.

Twenty years later, that love is no longer simple.
Time changes people.
Language matures.
And standing face to face with memory,
we suddenly realize—
love is not only emotion, but also understanding.

Hearing that woman’s firm, flawless voice
on women’s freedom,
a silent stone lodged within the poet finally moves.
The poem then ceases to be only about love—
it becomes a poem of self-liberation.

Why is poetry necessary?

Poetry teaches us—

🫆 how to say what was never said
🫆 how to touch time with words
🫆 how memory, even through pain, can grant freedom

Where prose comes to a halt,
poetry begins.

“Man and poetry are inseparable.
If there are people, poetry exists;
if poetry exists, people exist.”
— Humayun Azad

Why is poetry recitation important?

Poetry is written for the eyes,
but recitation is heard by the heart.

Recitation brings poetry back to life—
words begin to breathe,
and silence finds a language.

Why am I reciting poetry?
I do these creative works for my own joy,
to remain immersed in creation itself.

That is why, by my own wish,
I have started a poetry recitation series
on my new YouTube channel.
And this poem is where it begins.

If you like it,
I will find inspiration.

Mahbub Ahmed’s New Column: Rasa–Ramya Kathan
Some short stories about beating one’s own drum
➖➖➖

“One must beat one’s own drum”—
I can’t quite remember who said this first.

Perhaps film director Ritwik Ghatak said it suddenly in a burst of anger.
Or maybe the nineteenth-century great Bengali novelist Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, taking off his glasses and placing them on the table with a smile, once joked,
“If you don’t praise your own work, people will forget that it ever existed.”

Anyway, today I am beating my own drum.

Because if I don’t drum up last year’s achievements myself, they may feel too shy to enter the pages of history.

The story is simple—yet historic.

On the global e-commerce giant Amazon KDP marketplace,
my four books, published in a total of seven different formats, went live.
Working for many years and having them published in the same year—that itself is history.

But that’s not all.

On the tech mogul Google Books Partner Platform,
five of my books found their place last year—
right up to the very last night of the year.
Quietly, politely, but with firm confidence.

The most interesting piece of history, however, is hidden in children’s books.

Publishing children’s books simultaneously in English, Spanish, and Bangla—
something no Bengali author had done before on these platforms.
And it all happened last year.
While writing this line, I feel like turning up the sound of the drum a little more.

There is no doubt that in Bangladesh, there is no direct opportunity to publish books on Amazon KDP or Google Books Partner Platform.
So, realistically speaking, Bengali authors hardly get a chance to publish on these international platforms.

How painful and demanding writing and publishing a book truly is—
only writers know that.

“Books are the children of the brain”—
this famous quote by English writer Jonathan Swift means that books are born from a writer’s thoughts, knowledge, and imagination, just as children are born from parents.

One of the world’s greatest minds, Stephen Hawking, said about books—
“A book is a uniquely portable magic.”

The world of books is not small—
it is, in fact, a trillion-dollar industry.

Those who work seriously in this world and are involved in publishing can be described in one word—
Bookpreneurs.

Last year, I walked both in the light of this word
and in its darkness.

There were successes, and there were failures—
failures so big that they deserve separate writing of their own.

Last year carried much sorrow, but also many bold initiatives.
Someday, these initiatives may become history.
And if they don’t—
the joy of beating the drum will still not fade.

Our company, Eagles Boost Books, is moving toward becoming a professional international publishing house,
where authors from anywhere in the world will be able to publish their books on these platforms.
The work is already in progress.

Unless new decisions change the course, the company is preparing to invite investors into these platforms.
Since it is still in the making, it is not something to loudly drum about yet.

With deep affection, I must say—
behind all these small pieces of history stands my entire team.
The tireless hard work of every team member is beyond what words can express.

We—or I—are actually trying to publish original and extraordinary books.

A truly original and exceptional book written by me is coming soon.
I don’t want to reveal which book it is yet.
Can anyone really call their own book extraordinary?
Or is this just another act of drum-beating?

Time in our lives is running out.

Carrying illness, grief, fatigue, and dreams, we are slowly getting lost.
Shadows of old age are falling on our faces and minds.
This kind of poverty cannot be hidden.

Billionaires like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, and Jeff Bezos still list and read books every week.
Do you read books?
Do you find time to read?

No problem—
perhaps you will start reading only after becoming as successful as they are.
I keep faith in that belief.

There is no reason for despair—
unless despair itself comforts you.

Be enriched.
Stay well.
Be even better.

Tonight's 𝐖𝐨𝐥𝐟 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐨𝐧 rising over New York but with a rare halo, perfectly aligned above the Statue of Liberty, casting an otherworldly glow across the skyline as the city lights shimmer on the calm harbor below.

This is a 22° lunar halo. As the light enters and exits the crystals, it is bent by a precise angle of about 22 degrees, separating slightly into colors with a faint reddish inner edge and cooler tones fading outward. The effect is subtle to the eye but becomes more apparent during a bright full moon, creating a rare and ethereal glow around the Moon.

Some people are born as light.
And some are born as light, yet possess the courage to ultimately reject it.
Brigitte Bardot was one of those rare souls.

She was born on September 28, 1934, in the 15th arrondissement of Paris. Europe was still under the shadow of the Second World War. It was in that restless and uncertain world that a girl was born—one who would later redefine beauty, freedom, and a woman’s right to desire on her own terms.

Fire on Screen, Weariness in Real Life

In the 1950s and 1960s, French cinema itself seemed to carry the name Brigitte Bardot.
And God Created Woman alone was enough to prove that she was not merely an actress—she was a cultural explosion. The way she walked, the way she looked, even her silence challenged society’s gaze. She refused to be an object of male fantasy; instead, she chose to be the owner of her own will.

But fame, as dazzling as it is, can also be cruel.
Standing before cameras day after day, she came to realize that people wanted to see her—but not truly understand her.
From that realization, at the height of her success, she walked away from acting at the age of thirty-nine. Few possess the courage to make such a choice.

Love, Fractures, and Solitude

Bardot’s personal life was complex, incomplete, and deeply human.
Multiple marriages, broken relationships, and long stretches of loneliness shaped her reality. Her relationship with Gunter Sachs was widely discussed, while her later years with Bernard d’Ormale became a refuge of stability.

She had one child—Nicolas-Jacques Charrier.
As a mother, she was not perfect—but she was real. And real people are never perfect.

Choosing Silence Over Spotlight

After leaving cinema, she devoted herself to the protection of animal rights.
Stepping away from crowds, she stood beside those voiceless beings who could not speak for themselves.
It was in this chapter of her life that her humanity revealed its deepest form.

She understood one simple truth—
Love is not always popular, but when it is true, it endures.

The Final Chapter

On December 28, 2025, at the age of ninety-one, her life came to an end in Saint-Tropez, France.
This was not merely the death of an actress—it was the silent departure of an era.

She taught us that—
Beauty fades one day,
Fame eventually stops,
But the courage to live on one’s own terms remains forever.

Brigitte Bardot is no longer here—
Yet in courage, in memory, and in quiet defiance, she still lives on.

“যে সান্তা সময়ের কথা বলেছিল”
“The Santa Who Spoke of Time”

Snowfall began suddenly in California.
It was unusual—this kind of snow rarely falls here. The sky went silent, as if someone had pressed a mute button. Soft white flakes settled quietly on the leaves, the roadside, and even on my shoulders.

In the middle of that snowfall, we rescued a Santa from a deep forest—
or perhaps the story is exactly the opposite.
In truth, Santa rescued me.
But people don’t like to tell such truths.
Neither do I.

There was something strange in Santa’s smile. He didn’t talk much. He just looked at me, as if he knew everything—my past, my unspoken regrets, and the decisions I never made, the ones that still leave a gentle emptiness in my chest.

He didn’t tell me to “be a good person.”
He didn’t say, “dream big.”
He only said,
“Time does not wait.”

It was time to say goodbye. With a smile.
At that very moment, we arranged to take this photograph.
The picture captured two smiles—one of a man, and one of a story.
It became impossible to tell who was Santa and who was rescued.

Christmas is coming.
A new year is standing at the door.

The question is simple, but the answer is hard—
Will we be able to make a decision this new year that moves us a decade forward?

Maybe we will.
Maybe we won’t.

But that day, in the middle of California’s impossible snowfall, standing before Santa’s silent smile, I understood something for the first time—
Not making a decision is also a decision.

A Deep, Emotional, and Reality-Driven Analysis on Social Media Entrepreneurship

By Mahbub Ahmed |Writer, Entrepreneur & Human Rights & Environmental Activist

𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: 𝐀 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐞𝐭 𝐍𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭, 𝐀 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐝 𝐐𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧

It’s 3:00 a.m.
The room is silent.
Only the blue glow of a mobile screen lights up the face of an entrepreneur.

In today’s digital entrepreneurship era, millions of founders rely on Facebook for business growth. With one tap, sales rise. With one algorithm update, reach disappears.

This leads to a critical question in social media entrepreneurship:

Is Facebook truly a blessing for entrepreneurs—or a silent curse hidden inside platform dependency?

𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐑𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐅𝐚𝐜𝐞𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐬 𝐚 𝐆𝐥𝐨𝐛𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦

Facebook transformed online business strategy forever. Entrepreneurs no longer needed large capital, offices, or physical stores.

Today:
• Small businesses scale using Facebook marketing
• Creators monetize audiences through personal branding
• Startups gain early traction via organic reach and paid ads

𝐀𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐤 𝐙𝐮𝐜𝐤𝐞𝐫𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐠 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝:

“Facebook is about giving people the power to build community and bring the world closer together.”

For many founders, Facebook enabled digital business growth at an unprecedented speed.

Positive Perspectives from Successful Entrepreneurs

Gary Vaynerchuk, entrepreneur and investor, explains:

“Social media is the biggest opportunity of our lifetime.”

𝐄𝐥𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐮𝐬𝐤 𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰𝐥𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬:

“Without social media, many startups wouldn’t survive their early days.”

These voices reinforce Facebook’s role in startup growth and the creator economy.

The Dark Side of Platform-Dependent Businesses

As Facebook algorithm changes become frequent, entrepreneurs face a harsh reality:

They don’t own their audience.

How Platform Dependency Damages Business Sustainability
• Organic reach declines year after year
• Paid advertising costs increase
• ROI becomes unpredictable
• Businesses rely heavily on Facebook Ads strategy
• Founders lose control over audience ownership

A common realization among founders:

“My business depended on Facebook, but Facebook never depended on me.”

This is the core risk of platform dependency in digital marketing.

Insider Warnings About Social Media Power

Even industry leaders warn against blind reliance.

Chamath Palihapitiya, former Facebook executive:

“We have created tools that are ripping apart the social fabric of society.”

Tim Cook, Apple CEO, states:

“If a service is free, you are the product.”

For entrepreneurs, this raises ethical and strategic questions about data ownership and long-term business growth.

Mental Health and the Entrepreneurial Cost of Visibility

Beyond metrics and KPIs lies a hidden crisis: mental health for entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurs experience:
• Burnout from constant content creation
• Anxiety caused by algorithm-driven validation
• Comparison within the creator economy
• Emotional exhaustion from unstable reach

Social media entrepreneurship often trades stability for visibility.

Is Facebook the Problem?

No.
The problem is over-dependence.

Facebook remains a powerful digital marketing channel, but not a sustainable foundation.

A Smarter Online Business Strategy

High-performing entrepreneurs diversify.

They focus on:
• Building websites and email lists
• Strengthening personal and brand authority
• Owning customer relationships
• Using Facebook as a traffic source, not a business base

This ensures long-term business sustainability.

Conclusion: Facebook as a Growth Channel, Not a Business Home

Facebook is a river in the digital economy.

If you understand digital marketing strategy, it moves you forward.
If you rely on it entirely, it controls your survival.

Facebook is neither good nor bad for entrepreneurs.
It tests strategic thinking, adaptability, and independence.

Final Thought for LinkedIn Readers

Entrepreneurship is not about chasing reach.
It’s about building assets you own.

Use Facebook wisely.
Build beyond it intentionally.

Mahbub Ahmed's regular column "Letters from California"—
Bangladesh Facing the Fire: Today the newspapers,
Tomorrow you—then history.

➖➖➖➖➖🔥

Just a few days ago, the words of the editor of Prothom Alo gave the impression that the newspaper had finally reached a safe and secure place. There was a smile of success, a sense of relief—perhaps the calm after a long storm.

But what do today’s horrifying scenes prove?
Is this what safety looks like?
Is this the space where truth can be spoken freely?

Prothom Alo and The Daily Star are the most influential and popular media outlets in Bangladesh. If this is their fate, what future awaits other independent voices and smaller media platforms?
This is not just a question for journalists—it is a question for the entire nation.

Today, an office is attacked, but in reality, fire is being set to conscience, reason, and the courage to ask questions.
If newspapers burn today, will our voices burn tomorrow?

Where will Bangladesh’s media stand in the eyes of the international community?
Can a nation truly progress when telling the truth is unsafe?

Months ago, an article of mine was published titled:
“Journalism Is Not a Crime—But Is Telling the Truth Punishable by Death?”
Today, I feel compelled to ask again—
Does protesting against journalism mean setting media offices on fire?
Is violence now the language of dissent?

If truth is punished with flames, fear, and destruction,
then one day this fire will reach all of us.
Because today it is the press—tomorrow it could be you,
and then, history itself.

In a world where darkness sometimes overshadows light, one heroic father’s bravery shone brightly at Bondi Beach. With raw courage, he disarmed an attacker during a mass shooting, saving countless lives. Now, as he fights for his own recovery, the world is coming together to show their support, raising over $1 million for his cause. This act of humanity reminds us of the power of kindness and selflessness, even in the most harrowing of times.
