Sometimes I am really wowed by the creativity of the couples I DJ for. Emilie and Austin had the coolest theme for their tables and guestbook. Tables were not numbered last night; rather, they had created double sided picture postcards of the various places they had traveled, and every table was a themed destination. Additionally, they had created postcards at their card table. For their guestbook, guests were asked to choose a postcard and write them a message on the back. When finished, the postcards were placed in a mailbox on the table. It was such a cute idea. I'd never seen anything like it before. I waited to take photos until late in the evening, and by that time, my DJ lighting had painted them in various colors. You can still see them really well despite the lighting effects.

Last night, I had the privilege of DJing the wedding of Emilie and Austin Fink! This beautiful couple has been so wonderful to work with as we prepped and planned for the big day. If there is something you want that your DJ doesn’t quite understand, he or she should ask questions until he or she knows exactly what your wishes are and how to make them come true. In all my years DJing, I have never been late to a wedding, and I have never missed a wedding. I have DJed when sick with the flu; I have DJed with broken bones; I even DJed the weekend after my father passed away. Here I am DJing the wedding of a former student in 2022 after having head surgery at the Cleveland Clinic.

I will never miss a wedding and ruin the most important day of my couple's lives.

Wedding vendors are increasingly turning to AI to advertise, so I recently thought I would give it a try.

A couple of weeks ago, I began experimenting with AI to create advertisements for my DJ business. AI has come a long way, but the characters used in the advertisements I created did not look real to me at all.

Because I want to always be authentic in my relationships with couples—from our first conversations to the final dances at their receptions—I will not be posting AI advertisements moving forward. Instead, I promise to keep it real.

I have a wealth of experience and can provide you with client reviews to back it up. I can also give you detailed examples of what I bring to an event. I am not talking about speakers and lighting; rather, I will share with you my personal strengths and areas of expertise. This is a job interview, after all, and you are hiring.

You should be able see photos and videos of my interactions with couples and their guests; you should be able to view playlists that I have used at past events. I want you to ask me about previous weddings I have DJed and continue to ask questions until you fully understand my qualifications.

I believe that my 5 star rating on both Facebook and Google is proof of my integrity. My reviews from brides and grooms for whom I have DJed are proof of my professionalism. And should you want more than all of this, I am always willing to provide references—there are countless couples who I have DJed for that are ready and willing to share their stories and tell of their experiences working with me.

The truth is, I want every couple to feel supported, valued, appreciated, and respected. I want every couple to feel that they are being heard. To advertise with AI is a cheat, and you deserve better.

I am not particularly tech savvy when sharing videos of my performance, but I am learning more about video creation every day. I will eventually get better, but until that day comes, you can rest assured that all future posts shared by me will always be honest and transparent. They will always be genuine. They will always be true.

When choosing your wedding DJ, it is incredibly important to find someone you trust. You need to make sure you and your DJ are on the same page and that you have complete faith in his or her ability to fulfill your expectations. This is something you should decide for yourself. Never allow a DJ to hurry you into making a decision. Reputable DJs will wait until you are ready. They may not be able to hold your date without a deposit, but they will never rush you to pay that deposit before you are sure. The best wedding DJs know the date will fill eventually. There is no reason to hurry a potential client. Choosing your DJ is the most important decision you will make when planning your wedding. No other vendor has complete control over how your guests are feeling throughout the night. You’re spending a lot of time and money to plan your wedding. Make your investment count with a DJ who will deliver the experience you expect and deserve.

Many couples greatly underestimate the cost of a professional DJ. The best wedding DJS are not cheap. They often cost much more than couples expect, but for good reason. DJs charge what they do so they can maintain, repair, and replace their equipment, add new music to their collections every month, and cover necessary expenses—from advertising to travel to dry cleaning, and everything in between. But the best wedding DJs will do their best to help you stay within your budget. They will be open and honest about pricing and will not have hidden costs. They will not push add-ons that they know you can not afford. And they will not make you worry or stress about the expenses involved. A full-time industry leader with multiple DJs on payroll will rightly charge more than a sole proprietor DJ business like mine. (I work for myself and have no one on payroll.) Still, I am not "cheap." The best wedding DJs who fall outside your budget should be willing to refer you to another reliable DJ that you can afford. There is no good reason for him or her not to help you find someone within your price point. Just make sure that the DJ at your price point isn’t billing more than he or she is worth.
