WATER SHOULD HAVE NEVER BE TREATED SO FRIVOLOUSLY

Why Texans Are Being Forced Into a Fight Over the Very Resource That Keeps Us Alive
It’s amazing to me that right now in the great state of Texas we are literally fighting over every drop of water. We’re fighting against massive developments that don’t even have homeowners yet, fighting against wastewater discharge permits for subdivisions where not one single family even lives there yet, and now fighting against the explosive growth of data centers that consume enormous amounts of water and electricity while our aquifers, rivers, and lakes are already under pressure. I think people across Texas, and honestly across this entire country, need to start paying attention to what’s happening to our waterways because the very resources we depend on for drinking water are, in my opinion, being taken advantage of by developers, data centers, and even the government agencies that are supposed to protect the public.
The Fight Is No Longer About Left Versus Right
Never in my life have I seen what feels like such an open attack on ordinary citizens from both Republicans and Democrats when it comes to water, land, and growth. Here in Canyon Lake I’ve watched situation after situation unfold that, in my opinion, never should have happened. I’ve seen people move onto property temporarily just long enough to qualify for votes tied to massive MUD approvals while other cases involving similar accusations remain under investigation to this day. I’ve watched citizens raise concerns only to be brushed aside while developments and permits keep moving forward.
What hurts the most is that I truly believed water would be the one thing capable of bringing people together. Republican, Democrat, independent — none of that changes the fact that every single one of us depends on water to survive. We drink it, recreate in it, fish in it, float in it, raise families around it, and depend on healthy rivers, aquifers, lakes, trees, crops, and wildlife for the future of our communities.
Water Is As Essential As Air
Without water, nothing survives. Without healthy water systems, you eventually lose growth, ecosystems, and even the natural systems that help provide the oxygen we breathe. Water is every bit as fundamental to human life as air itself. Yet somehow, one of the most basic and universally shared human needs has now been turned into a political battleground.
That’s what crushed me the most when church after church said they didn’t want to get involved because the issue was “political.” I never approached anyone asking them to support Republicans or Democrats. I wanted communities to come together and simply talk honestly about what is happening to our waterways, our aquifers, and our future.
If Texans Do Not Stand Together, Nothing Changes
That’s why I refuse to believe this issue should stay political. If churches, communities, Democrats, Republicans, independents, ranchers, landowners, and everyday citizens don’t start standing together up and down the Guadalupe, the Blanco, the Colorado, and waterways all across Texas, we will never get the government’s attention in a meaningful way. As long as we allow this to stay divided into political teams, nothing changes.
This should not be about party loyalty. It should be about protecting the very foundation of life and the future of the communities we all share together regardless of what side of the aisle we come from.
