Photo shoots often show women looking perfect. But what if they captured moments that were more true-to-life?

See how we captured details that happen to all of us in our Summer 2025 "Imperfection" photo shoot at https://flourishwomen.io/2025/05/13/imperfection-its-in-the-details/ .

Here's to embracing the beauty of a full, real life 🌻

We’ve all been there: We do something that’s not as graceful as we might have hoped, or something doesn’t turn out the way we imagined it. It happens to the best of us.

"Looking back, my inability to do puzzles mirrored the restlessness I experienced daily," writer Erin Urhahn tells us in our Summer 2025: Failure issue.

"I always felt pressure to have more, do more and ultimately be more. I couldn’t be still. I filled every hour with something — clubs, sports, random commitments — because I wouldn’t ask myself what I actually wanted to do. When my friends and family would try to make conversation, I was always busy, very busy, too busy to talk about it. I was living in the fast lane with no destination in mind."

"Things can always go wrong in the kitchen. I’ve messed up on sauces, added too much salt, and sometimes have to start all over. I fail all the time, but I never give up," says Southeast Missouri State University sous chef Amy Clippard.

"I’m convinced that the secret to being a great chef is not how well you can cook, but how well you can problem-solve."

Get Amy's recipe for strawberry jam and find out if, after a long day of cooking, she still cooks at home, at https://flourishwomen.io/2025/05/13/artist-spotlight-amy-clippard/ 👩‍🍳

“From the age of 5, we’re told we’re supposed to be perfect, and that kind of gets drilled into your head and bleeds into every aspect of your life, not just gymnastics," says junior SEMO Gymnastics Team member Taylor Ingle.

"So, I think even in school and in our social lives, we want everybody to view us as perfect essentially, which isn’t a realistic expectation for ourselves. ... I think it’s just more [about] finding happiness in the fact that you get to do [gymnastics]. … It’s finding the joy in the failure and in the highs and less in the scores and the numbers and the grades and whatever it might be.”

"Somewhere I can’t remember now I read: 'Failure isn’t obstacles in the path. It is the path,'" editor Mia Pohlman writes in our Summer 2025: Failure issue.

"Maybe closed doors and failed attempts and 'no’s' are guides through the wilderness, the banks for bodies of water like bumper rails showing us where to flow. As we run along, they’re cheering us on, showing us the way that leads to the ocean, the bigger-than-us goal, all that open."

It's here!!! Our Summer 2025: Failure issue!

Because sometimes, our attempts don't go as planned. And that's OK, sister — you don't have to get it right all of the time. In fact, maybe some of the best adventures happen when we let our guard down and allow ourselves the freedom to exist in the fullness of who we are, a mixture of experiences that go like we hope they will and ones that don't.

So, here's to embracing what we didn't plan for, loving all of ourselves regardless of the outcome of our efforts and enjoying our time along the way. It's a beautiful life we get to live.

"It really helps talking about the death of a loved one with others who have also lost loved ones," Megan McClanahan writes about losing her grandmother in our Spring 2025: New issue.

"The main turning point that helped me heal was talking to a very close friend of mine who had lost her grandpa. She just understood me in a way no one else could. She put the words to my feelings when I couldn’t articulate what I was feeling and thinking."

"My professional role as a journey guide for cancer patients has helped me realize we shouldn’t leave things unsaid," Becki Yetman writes in our Spring 2025: New issue.

"I spend time with family members who have lost their person, and the thing they struggle with most is that they didn’t say certain things. I don’t want to have those regrets. I tell people I love them; I say how much I admire them or that I’m proud of who they are."
