*10 KILLED IN LWANDLE SHISANYAMA SHOOTING, SEPARATE SHOOTINGS IN KHAYELITSHA AND MILNERTON*

Western Cape police are investigating three separate shooting incidents that left 16 people dead across the province this weekend.

In Lwandle, official police reports indicate that gunmen entered an entertainment venue that also sells braaied meat (shisanyama) at approximately 01:46 and opened fire on patrons.

Five people died on the scene, while five others succumbed to injuries after being transported to medical facilities. Eleven others are receiving treatment for injuries sustained.

Lwandle police have opened cases of murder and attempted murder.

Police spokesperson Dyantyi said detectives are hard at work searching for the perpetrators, with no arrests effected yet.

“The identities of the deceased persons will be released once their next of kin are informed. SAPS management has increased deployments to the area while the search for the gunmen continues,” Dyantyi said.

Meanwhile, four people were shot and killed in Khayelitsha on the Cape Flats.

Police spokesperson Andre Traut said officers responded to the scene in Site C on Saturday night, where they found two bodies inside a stationary vehicle and a third body next to the vehicle. A fourth victim was taken to a medical facility where he succumbed to his injuries upon arrival.

“Four victims sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to their injuries. The motive for this shooting remains unknown and no suspects have been arrested at this stage. Detectives attached to the Provincial Serious and Violent Crimes Unit are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify those responsible,” Traut said.

In a third incident in Milnerton, two men were shot and killed and another wounded after police responded to a complaint of a shooting in Freedom Street, Joe Slovo Park.

No arrests have been made and the motive forms part of the police investigation.

🚨 SUSPECTED ABALONE POACHERS ARRESTED AFTER HIGH-SPEED SEA POINT CHASE

A high-speed chase through the streets of Sea Point ended with the arrest of suspected abalone poachers on Wednesday.

The dramatic incident followed an intelligence-led operation targeting suspected illegal abalone poaching. Officers received information and began the operation in Camps Bay before pursuing a suspect vehicle.

The vehicle was initially stopped on Regent Road outside the Point Centre, where Metro Police officers attempted to apprehend the occupants. However, the driver managed to escape the blockade and fled up Kei Apple Road.

During the pursuit, officers were seen attempting to stop the vehicle, with police reportedly firing a shot at the tyres. The vehicle eventually crashed into the pavement, allowing Metro Police officers to apprehend the occupants.

Abalone was recovered during the operation, although authorities have not yet disclosed the quantity.

The South African Police Service also made arrests and recovered additional abalone from a second vehicle believed to be linked to the operation.

Sea Point City Improvement District COO Heather Tager commended the Metro Police and Intelligence Unit for their efforts, saying illegal abalone poaching remains a serious concern along the Atlantic Seaboard.

The Sea Point CID said it will provide relevant CCTV footage from its area-wide camera network to assist with the investigation.

The City’s Marine Unit, which forms part of the Law Enforcement Department, has also increased proactive patrols and checkpoints in recent weeks.

*Residents Take R114-Million N2 Wall Fight To Sea Point Promenade*

Residents from some of Cape Town's poorer communities took their fight over Cape Town's R114 million N2 wall to the Sea Point Promenade on Thursday, saying the money should rather be spent on communities battling sewage, potholes, crime and poor services.

The protest was led by Movement for CARE, with residents from Khayelitsha, Manenberg and Langa speaking about conditions in their communities and questioning why R114 million was being spent on the N2 project.

Movement for CARE co-founder Axolile Notywala said residents wanted the money invested in communities where basic services were failing.

“Our streets are full of s***, while our roads are not working, there are big potholes, while there is gang violence in our community, our young people are busy with drugs because they don’t have opportunity,” he said.

“We want that money to be invested in us. That is our money, it’s not their money.”

Notywala said there was a stark difference between conditions in poorer communities and areas such as Sea Point and Camps Bay.

He said residents were tired of being ignored while the City spends millions on projects they believe do not benefit them.

The City of Cape Town has not yet responded to the latest protest.

PHILIPPI PROTEST ENTERS DAY 3 - Roads Blocked, Services Disrupted

Protesters have disrupted essential services and traffic in Philippi, Cape Town, for three days since last week.

On Monday, Philippi Village issued a warning to its tenants and visitors to avoid travelling to the site until further notice due to ongoing unrest.

At 5am on Wednesday, residents from Siyangena informal settlement again blocked the busy intersection at New Eisleben and Bristol roads with burning branches, mattresses and rocks. Law enforcement agencies, including police, were on scene monitoring the situation.

Why they are protesting:

Residents are demanding that the City of Cape Town negotiate on their behalf with Oasis Crescent Property Company, owners of the land they occupy, and Philippi Village next door, for electricity to be installed. Most households currently rely on illegal connections. They are also demanding waste removal services.

Siyangena informal settlement was established in 2018 when about 500 people occupied the land. The community grew rapidly during the Covid lockdown, with residents coming from Philippi, Nyanga, Gugulethu, Khayelitsha and Langa.

Resident Mzikayise Fongo, who has lived there since 2019, said: "We don’t feel the City of Cape Town is doing enough to negotiate for us with the landowners. We are citizens and we deserve to be treated as such. Like every other human being, we also should be having electricity."

He said most residents are unemployed and cannot afford gas stoves or pay for informal electricity connections from streetlights or nearby formal houses.

There are 94 households living alongside a large pool of stagnant water. Protesters want these households relocated.

Resident Nosicelo Ngele said: "We have to close our doors and windows because the stench coming from the pond is unbearable. We cannot live like this, but we have to because we don’t have a choice."

🚨 **WESTERN CAPE CRIME DROPS, BUT SEXUAL VIOLENCE REMAINS A CONCERN**

The Western Cape has recorded a decline in several serious and violent crime categories during the first quarter of the 2026/2027 financial year.

Newly appointed Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sizakhele Dyantyi presented the latest crime statistics, marking his first presentation since taking over the provincial SAPS leadership.

The statistics show:

🔹 Contact crime decreased by **6.3%**
🔹 Murder decreased by **6.7%**
🔹 Carjackings dropped by **14.6%**
🔹 House robberies decreased by **15%**

Police attributed much of the progress to **Operation Prosper**, which targets high-crime hotspots across the province. At participating police stations, contact crime decreased by **12.1%**, while murder dropped by **16.8%**.

Dyantyi welcomed the reductions, saying crime statistics are important in measuring police performance and identifying emerging crime trends. He also praised SAPS members for their efforts and acknowledged the work done by his predecessor, Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile.

However, Dyantyi warned that significant challenges remain, particularly regarding sexual violence.

Reported **rapes increased by 3.8%**, while **sexual assaults rose by 5.7%** during the period under review.

Despite the overall decline, police say the fight against crime in the Western Cape is far from over.

*TAXI DRIVER SHOT AND KILLED ON N2 HIGHWAY NEAR GUGULETHU*

*GUGULETHU* - Gugulethu police have registered a murder case following a fatal shooting on the N2 highway on Tuesday, 25 August, at about 10:58.

According to provincial police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, the deceased has been identified as a 27-year-old taxi driver.

Gwala said preliminary reports indicate the driver was chased by two unknown suspects from Kanana Informal Settlement.

"He sustained gunshot wounds to the head and was declared dead on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack is believed to be related to taxi violence," said Gwala.

She confirmed that police are following all available leads and no arrests have been made at this stage.

The incident has left the Gugulethu community in shock. A member of the Gugulethu Community Policing Forum (CPF), who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of harassment, described the incident as shocking.

"I don't know what really happened. But I heard that there was a man who was chased all the way from Kanana and he was shot and killed near the N2. I don't know what the motive behind that was," he said.

He added that the perpetrators deserve to be arrested, saying criminals no longer show mercy. He appealed to anyone with information to come forward and report it at the nearest police station.

Police investigations continue.

*3 Councillors Dead in 48 Hours - Knysna Killings Shock Town*

Knysna is reeling after two more murders in 48 hours.

On Thursday night at around 9pm, former councillor *Mandla Matiwane* and taxi boss *Mandla Tyololo* were gunned down in a car in Bongani.

It came just hours after ward 8 councillor and former mayor *Aubrey Tsengwa* was shot dead in his car in Joodsekamp on Wednesday night.

Police say they are investigating if the killings are linked. No arrests yet.

The two men killed on Thursday have a history - both were linked to the 2018 assassination of ANC councillor Victor Molosi. Tyololo was charged with plotting the murder but acquitted in 2020. Matiwane was a state witness in that case.

Three other men were convicted for Molosi's murder.

Now police's serious violent crime unit has been reinforced as fears of escalating political violence grow in Knysna.

*Cape Town Motorists Warned: Outstanding Traffic Warrants Could Lead to Arrest at Home*

Cape Town motorists with outstanding traffic fines are being warned to settle them — or risk officers arriving at their door.

Traffic officers executed *160 warrants at 54 addresses* across the metro on Wednesday as part of the City's ongoing trace operation to track down motorists over traffic transgressions.

According to Traffic Services spokesperson Kevin Jacobs, *16 people were arrested* during the operation, while 39 were released on warning. Motorists also settled outstanding fines to the value of *R110,000* at the department's mobile payment centre.

"Suspects finalised outstanding warrants to the value of R110 000 at the department's mobile payment centre," Jacobs said.

The operation is part of ongoing enforcement by Traffic Services, which executes more than *96,000 warrants on average per year*.

Jacobs said home visits are part of the department's trace operation, but officers can also enforce outstanding warrants during routine patrols or through Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology.

This means motorists with outstanding fines could be traced at home or picked up during normal traffic enforcement operations.

An outstanding warrant can also cause problems when it comes time to renew your licence.

"Persons with outstanding warrants are also unable to conduct certain transactions on the NaTIS system, including renewing driving or vehicle licences," Jacobs said.

Motorists who may have forgotten about an old fine or put off paying it are encouraged to check and settle any outstanding fines to avoid arrest or issues with licence renewals.
