On any given day in Southern California, girls are still often outnumbered in the water. Even in areas such as San Clemente, where there are plenty of women pros and world-renowned surf spots, it’s not unusual for a girl grom to paddle out, look around and see no one who looks like her.

Enter the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization Girl Grom Surf Club, originally founded in Cardiff by the Sea about a year ago, built around changing this norm and creating a welcoming, encouraging space where girls of all ages and abilities can surf together and feel as if they belong.
