This weekend, communities nationwide marked the sixth annual Good Trouble Lives On, honoring Congressman John Lewis through teach-ins, registration drives, and interfaith gatherings from Birmingham to Santa Barbara. Voters and allies across the coalition carried Lewis's call to teach, reach, and preach, turning awareness into action. As we head into the midterms, that energy carries forward. Check your status, make your plan, stay engaged.

I came to Essence Fest with and to teach creators how storytelling moves communities.. how your content is the link, the story is the internal link, and the community outcome is the impact. Then the universe handed me the whole lesson in real time.

Dr. Ilyasah Shabazz and Dr. Bernice King. Malcolm’s daughter and Martin’s daughter. One stage.

Dr. Shabazz said her father was taken at 39, and she’s now old enough to be HIS mother. Dr. King reminded us her daddy wasn’t killed for having a dream, he was killed for having a budget.. Operation Breadbasket, the Poor People’s Campaign, economic power for the people who built this country’s profits.

Both fathers gone at 39. Both daughters still carrying it. Peep that it’s Black women doing the memory work while the country flattens they daddies into holiday quotes.

Salute to CBC PAC and Rolling Sea Action for putting creators in the room where legacy lives. This is what filling the void left by retreating public education media looks like.
