Number 176 in the , DROWNING MAN, is also the second single from the forthcoming album MISCHIEF IN THE MUSITORIUM. I am super excited about how this track turned out and I have my collaborators to thank for that. New Orleans Drummer PETER VARNADO (Preservation Hall Jazz Band) laid down some seriously funky s**t and then referred me to another New Orleans cat, the burnin' Saxophonist ORLANDO GILBERT who is also the co-writer on this one and then of course, my dear comrade from Junk and post junk trio, DAVID DR ROBBINS brought it all the way home with his Bari and Flute accompaniments and his crazy ass solo. I know that we are confusing the algorithms (and maybe you) by releasing "Jazz", "Blues", "Rock" and dare I say "Fusion" tracks all as one entity but hey, algorithm be damned...in the supposed words of the great Duke Ellington, "There are simply two kinds of music, good music, and the other kind". Enjoy!

Almost 10 years ago, Malcolm Holcombe and I met in person for the first time. We gathered at RCA Studio in Nashville with a group of Malcolm’s favorite players and we spent a few days making the first of seven records that I had the pleasure of having my fingerprints on.

The last time I saw Malcolm we gathered at Echo Mountain in Asheville NC in 2022 and made what proved to be the last of those seven albums.

We had plans, multiple times, to get together again and hit the record button but it never transpired. My last words to Malcolm were that I was expecting him to get out of the hospital shortly because he had the songs - and I had the studio booked and ready.

Malcolm was a kind and generous soul, an amazing hot sauce purveyor, and a keen observer of the human condition. His little ditties, as he called them, were movies disguised as songs. And he never played them the same way twice!!

Cyndi - thank you for all you did for Malcolm. It allowed Malcolm to give so much to the rest of us.

Malcolm, I miss you already. Thank you for your trust and belief. You made my life immeasurably better.
