West Hempstead residents have expressed concern about debris that has built up in Halls Pond. Many complain about the state of the playground and the lack of bathrooms in the park. They wish to see this park, which is the entrance to the community, be better maintained.

The Malverne Community Theatre performed three shows at Crossroads Farm as part of their annual Shakespeare on the Farm performance. This year’s play was “Julius Caesar.”

On May 21, rising seniors Danielle Johnson and Melanie Clement were elected by their peers to serve as liaisons to the school board. As Ex-Officio Student Member of the Board and alternate, respectively, they plan to make change in the Malverne school district.

They were sworn into their positions on July 8. These new roles are the result of a state mandate that ensures a students’ perspective is considered when board make decisions for their districts.

Maria Rianna attended her first Board of Education meeting as superintendent of the Malverne school district on July 8. She took over the role on July 3, following Lorna Lewis’s retirement after five years in the position.

Abigail Guiheen, a member of Valley Stream’s all-girls Scouting America Troop 99 and Malverne resident, placed “No Dumping” medallions around all of the storm drains in Malverne as pat of her Eagle Scout project.
