OCEANSIDE: Earlier today, reports came out of a hit-and-run in Encinitas. Deputies located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver fled, leading deputies on a pursuit. Due to the suspect’s reckless driving, the pursuit was terminated as the vehicle entered Carlsbad.

A short time later, the suspect nearly collided with a Carlsbad Police unit and fled again. Carlsbad officers eventually lost sight of the vehicle but advised Oceanside PD that it was registered to an Oceanside address and to be on the lookout.

Shortly after, the vehicle crashed near Rancho Del Oro Rd & Mesa Dr. Officers arrived and the suspect refused to exit the vehicle, leading to a short standoff. A K9 was deployed and officers utilized less-lethal rounds, shattering both the driver and passenger side front windows.

Due to the police activity, nearby schools were placed on lockdown as a precaution. After a short time, the suspect was taken into custody and all lockdowns were lifted.

There is no additional information available at this time.

OCEANSIDE, CA – At approximately 5:35 PM this afternoon, the Oceanside Fire Department and Oceanside
Police Department responded to reports of a vegetation fire that started near the bottom of North Loretta Street
in the Eastside Capistrano neighborhood.
Due to steep terrain and wind conditions, the fire spread rapidly uphill, threatening homes on San Juan Place
and Santa Anita Street. As fire conditions worsened and the potential for property loss increased, the Oceanside
Police Department issued evacuation orders for affected areas to ensure public safety.
Multiple ground resources responded aggressively to protect threatened structures and establish containment
lines. Aircraft resources were requested early in the incident due to fire behavior, access challenges, and the
threat to homes; however, air resources were ultimately not needed as crews made significant progress on the
ground.
Firefighters successfully stopped the fire’s forward progress within approximately 45 minutes, preventing
further spread into residential areas. The fire ultimately burned approximately 2.5 acres.
There were no immediate reports of civilian injuries or structural damage because of the incident. Oceanside
Fire Department’s Hand Crew will remain on scene for several hours conducting mop-up operations and
extinguishing hot spots.
During the investigation, two juvenile suspects were identified by the Oceanside Police Department, questioned,
and released to their parents. The incident remains under investigation. STOCK PHOTO 📸
