Introducing Gilbert, a husky-shepherd-rottie mix we adopted in March. After our sweet Griffin passed away on Valentine's Day, our shepherd mix Sophie developed severe anxiety issues; she was unable to venture outside of the house or car.

So Maja at recommended that we adopt a "confident, young male dog." Enter Gilbert, from 's Home-to-Home program.

It's been over 7 months now, and Gil has been helping Soph steadily regain her confidence. She loves him, and so do we! But but but, this husky mix needs some serious training--our fault, not his, for not addressing this sooner. He's a bundle of muscle that bounces all around the house, happy and joyful all the time, starting at 5 am when he wakes us up by leaping on the bed and licking our heads, and sometimes pulling on my hair, until we get up.

Enter , a dog training and boarding center that's a short 10 min walk from our house. We enrolled him in doggie boot camp. So for 2 days each week, we take Gil to school, where he plays with other dogs all day and receives training sessions with Jiro, who is marvelous with dogs. Then, at the end of the training, my husband and I will then receive 5 private lessons with Jiro so that we can be taught all the commands that he teaches our stubborn, independent husky mix.

Tiny . I got this from about 7 years ago and I mounted it on a tiny chunk of wood that looks (to me) like an ancient mountain. I clean out its tiny globe terrarium twice a year, replacing the rocks with new and pinching off excess green moss. I spritz it with distilled water daily, fertilizing every 3rd day. It's rewarded me with consistent blooms and is an incredibly robust plant for such a tiny thing... BTW has his spring OPEN HOUSE this coming weekend. Hope to see some of you there!

Griffin. My dearest, sweetest, most stubborn boy. Protector and peace keeper, full of mischiefand fun. February 14, 2008 - February 14, 2024. He was my companion, my dear heart, my Valentine every day of every year. He laughed whenever I used to "sweat the small stuff." And made me smile. Always. The hole in my heart will never be filled.

Thank you to for bringing him into our lives as a pup (you knew him as Aramis). Thank you to my friends at .carlsbad and and Heather and Drs Pei and Lockwood and the rest of the team for taking care of him. Also, : Natalie, he loved you. And most recently : Maja, Dr Selders, Dr Selders, Rem, Amy, and Grace, I cannot thank you enough for the happiness you gave us during his final months.

His final moments were peaceful, funny (he gobbled his red velvet cupcake! Thank you!). He was ready to move on, and I shall try my best to do the same. I miss you, my Giffy, and I'll see you again one day. Thank you for being. 💓
