Introducing Gilbert, a husky-shepherd-rottie mix we adopted in March. After our sweet Griffin passed away on Valentine's Day, our shepherd mix Sophie developed severe anxiety issues; she was unable to venture outside of the house or car.
So Maja at recommended that we adopt a "confident, young male dog." Enter Gilbert, from 's Home-to-Home program.
It's been over 7 months now, and Gil has been helping Soph steadily regain her confidence. She loves him, and so do we! But but but, this husky mix needs some serious training--our fault, not his, for not addressing this sooner. He's a bundle of muscle that bounces all around the house, happy and joyful all the time, starting at 5 am when he wakes us up by leaping on the bed and licking our heads, and sometimes pulling on my hair, until we get up.
Enter , a dog training and boarding center that's a short 10 min walk from our house. We enrolled him in doggie boot camp. So for 2 days each week, we take Gil to school, where he plays with other dogs all day and receives training sessions with Jiro, who is marvelous with dogs. Then, at the end of the training, my husband and I will then receive 5 private lessons with Jiro so that we can be taught all the commands that he teaches our stubborn, independent husky mix.
