“I found my home… I found my company,” says Marvella Alvarez, a customer support specialist and team lead. Her journey in the fabric world began when she spent 10 years working for a garment manufacturer before coming to TVF in 2019. Marvy says one of her earliest impressions of our employee-ownership culture still applies today: “There’s no one here who’d say, ‘that’s not my job.’”
In addition to delivering exceptional customer service, Marvy is well-known for her baking and cooking talents and her connection to her huge family (twelve siblings), which she and her seven sisters combine for an elegant high tea they share every Sunday together. “We're a party of our own…” Marvy says. “We sometimes don't see each other during the week, so Sunday is our day to reconnect.” "It’s teatime! Let’s go catch up, have a great time, and bring our kids along."
TVF recently refreshed our Core Values, and Marvy says the two she most closely identifies with are Embrace an Ownership Mindset and Seek Progress Over Perfection. “There’s no such thing as perfection, only lessons.” She adds” I see everything from every perspective… I think what would an owner do?”
TVF is 100% employee owned, which Marvy says makes us a “unicorn” where everyone’s opinions are considered and valued. "There is a lot to learn in this industry. We can ask questions without feeling embarrassed, and since we are a teaching company, there are no silly questions. If you have a question that you think might be silly, someone will be there to answer it for you!"
