The POP Team wishes to express its deepest gratitude to Roben Bellomo of Bellomo Studios for generously donating the stunning photograph gifted to Hospital Infantil Dr. Arturo Grullón in Santiago, our esteemed public children's hospital, during our recent mission trip. The photograph unwrapped by Dr. Alicia Rivas, the hospital's Director, holds special significance as it depicts a butterfly, symbolizing transformation, echoing our team's efforts.

Introducing: BUILD-A-SPINE! 🙌
We’re raising funds for kids who need life-changing spine surgery—one vertebra at a time.

Each $100+ donation = 1 vertebra added to our spine! 🦴
Our goal: build a full spine of 33 vertebrae by September 1st.

Help us give our patients the strong, healthy future they deserve 💛

Did you know a human spine has 33 vertebrae?

Scoliosis is a condition that causes the spine to curve in an “S” or “C” shape — often leading to chronic pain, reduced mobility, and breathing difficulties.

💡Stay tuned… we are building support one vertebra at a time.

Meet Luis Ángel, a young man with cerebral palsy who required tendon lengthening to reduce his contracted hip. The pain was so intense that he screamed when he was lying down. As a result, neither he nor his mom could get a good night’s sleep—until last night.

This morning, when we checked in on him, he had slept peacefully through the night. 🥰

One day post-op and already walking! 💪Djoumelcie, one of our scoliosis patients, underwent surgery yesterday using a new growth-friendly technique called APIFIX-thanks to the generous support of
OrthoPediatrics. This innovative approach allows her spine to continue growing while correcting the curve. She's expected to go home today!

Mission update!

Our reunion of previous patients yesterday was fantastic. We had patients from each and every mission trip that we have ever orchestrated. It was truly a beautiful event. Today we were able to operate 6 patients in total, three children and three adults. Our first case on the adult side was a discectomy of a 28 year-old who had been enduring lower back pain radiating to the legs for quite some time. Postoperatively, he was slightly sore at the incision site, but the symptoms that l brought him to surgery were completely gone!!! Tomorrow there are 2 adult and 2 pediatric patients.

Our Story

We started with yearly mission trips and have now evolved into a 5-arm model that includes FREE orthopedic surgeries for impoverished children in the third world (mostly for scoliosis), educating local surgeons and medical staff, equipping the local children’s hospital, sponsoring and bringing complex cases for surgery in the US. The surgeons we have trained are now doing cases independently and more importantly, training other surgeons to do the same. The patients we have treated are paying it forward as well, assisting us during our yearly mission trips. The parents of several patients have also helped out! We are unique in that we are totally volunteer run. NO ONE IS SALARIED. All donations therefore, go towards our efforts. POP is a non-profit {501 (c)(3)} organization
