I’d love to know how people in Huntington are getting their local news these days.

For a long time, we had The TAB, which showed up in the mailbox for free twice a week. Now it’s once a week, and you need a paid subscription to read most of the content online or in print.

We also used to have the Huntington Herald Press, but in 2024, it became part of a new regional newspaper called the Indiana Plain Dealer, which now covers Huntington, Wabash, and Miami counties after combining the Herald Press, the Wabash Plain Dealer, and the Peru Tribune. You can see the headlines online, but reading the full stories requires a subscription.

I’m curious, do you subscribe to either of these publications? If not, what social media pages do you visit, or how do you usually hear about what’s happening around town?

This last week was a doozy. I can’t remember the last time I was that down and out.

Terrible congestion, sore throat, body aches… and a headache that completely knocked me flat.

I’m definitely feeling better, but I always hear about natural or over-the-counter remedies that really work for people. I’m hoping there won’t be a next time, but just in case, I’d love to have a list of options ready!

Has anyone tried Italian penicillin soup? What about chili peppers and horseradish? Any tried-and-true headache concoctions?

I’d love to hear what’s worked for you.

Mid-century bathroom makeover....on a budget.

Turquoise sinks, turquoise tub, orange carpet (gone), rainbow wallpaper (soon to be gone), and a red light that adds warmth but feels slightly dramatic.

We're keeping the sinks, tub, and vanity. Now I need ideas that will complement the turquoise. Flooring, paint color(s), hardware, and fixtures. Let me know what you think!

Today was a great day at Buyer's Market in Marion!

I picked up 16 brand-new, name-brand clothing items for $34. I sometimes hesitate to recommend Buyer's Market because it can be hit-or-miss, but when it’s good, it’s really good!

If you enjoy the hunt and love a deal, it’s definitely worth checking out!

Pickle lovers, this one’s for you!

I brought dill pickle soup to our church Souper Bowl party tonight. Was it a crowd favorite? Probably not. Was it a unique choice? Definitely.

I stand by it.😉

Maybe everyone already knows about this combo, or maybe someone out there hasn’t tried it yet. Either way, it’s officially in my rotation of sweet treats!

Strawberries dipped in sour cream, then dipped in brown sugar. It might sound a little questionable, but it’s so so good. Sweet, creamy, and surprisingly addictive.

It’s only three ingredients, takes about two minutes, and our local Kroger has really ripe strawberries right now.

Have you tried this before?

Synchronous eLearning day three has a way of stretching everyone a little thin. With in-person school canceled again, I know a lot of parents are scrambling as they juggle work, childcare, and e-learning. It got me thinking about how much support from employers can really matter, especially during weeks like this.

I’m curious, what’s one thing your employer does, or could do, that makes you feel valued or genuinely supported as an employee?

I’ll start. I’ve always thought every employee’s birthday should count as a paid holiday. You get the day off to celebrate you! And if you’d rather work that day, or your birthday falls on a weekend, you get to take a paid day off sometime during your birthday month instead. It feels like a simple way to say, “You matter here, and we're so thankful you were born!”

I’d love to hear your ideas.

Lately, I’ve been trying to pay attention to the small things that make Huntington feel like home.

What’s an experience, place, or simple routine that makes your day a little better here?

This past week, we finally found a day for an adventure: food, fun, and a little shopping! It was a “thank you” to two sweet friends whose support couldn’t go unnoticed, so off we went to The Cake Bake Shop in Carmel, Indiana.

None of us had been before, and it’s been on my list for a while. It turned out to be such a delightful, special-occasion kind of day. Carmel makes for an easy day trip, and if you’re someone who loves details, you’ll appreciate every inch of the space. The food and cake were delicious, and they still had their Christmas decorations up, which made it feel extra charming.

And closer to home, The Parker Grace in Roanoke has that same special feel. I’ve been there for milestone celebrations and lunches with good friends. The food and desserts are amazing! They are currently on their annual winter break, but I highly recommend a visit once they return at the end of the month.

Beautiful places, special occasions, and sweet friends always make for a great day! 💕 The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers The Parker Grace
