It’s a hobby with a responsibility.

That’s how the 80 members of the Steel City Amateur Radio Club in Collier view the skill, science and enjoyment of participating in ham radio.

“It’s a fun place to hang out,” said member Robert Mente of Collier, who also is the emergency coordinator for the Allegheny County Amateur Radio Emergency Services. “We try to solve the world’s problems.”

“The Carnegie Farmers Market is one of the larger markets in the area, as it is held on two blocks of Main Street with around 40 vendors each day,” Sam Bigham said. “We also have food trucks and food tents so folks coming down can buy something to eat as well.”

The Carnegie Farmer’s Market kicks off July 6 and runs every Sunday until Sept. 21, with the exception of Labor Day Weekend, said coordinator Sam Bigham.
