Johnny Cash famously sang “The man comes around” and Kingston football got its man, as 2014 graduate Eric Hartsell landed back home after making a few coaching stops throughout the Thumb-area.

Saturday morning’s football camp visit featured a North Branch intramural scrimmage.

The Broncos finished the 2024 season at 6-3, and found themselves on the outside in a strong Division 4 playoff picture.

They will look to snap their short playoff drought this season, and a big part of the squad, in more ways than one, will be 6-foot-6 270-pound lineman and Michigan State commit Eli Bickel. He’ll anchor the offensive line, that will have to fight through the gauntlet that is the Blue Water Area Conference.

The Broncos, led by third-year head coach Chris Sikora, opens the season on Aug. 28 at Ga***rd with a 7 p.m. kickoff.

Stop two on the football camp journey had me landing in the friendly confines of Red Hawk nation.

Cass City finished last season with a 7-4 record, and falling to eventual Division 7 state champion Millington in the district championship game.

A hungry Red Hawks’ squad will look to overthrow Millington at the top of the BTC White mountain.

Cass City opens the season on Aug. 29 at Harbor Beach.

First stop of the year for football camps was today in Kingston, as the Cardinals prepare to battle in a strong Big Thumb Conference Blue Division.

Kingston will have a new, but familiar face, at the helm as 2014 graduate Eric Hartsell has taken over the head coaching duties.

We’ll have more about Kingston and every other Advertiser-area football team in our Gridiron Preview featured in next Wednesday’s edition of The Advertiser.

Just announced.

Millington and Reese football will start the season 7 P.M. on Aug. 28 at Kettering University’s Atwood Stadium in Flint as part of the eighth annual Vehicle City Gridiron Classic.

“We’re two schools from Tuscola County and we were asked to come down and play in the feature game of the week down here. I think that's awesome.” - Reese coach Kerry Messing.

“We're excited, you know, I have a really good relationship with Kerry (Messing), and we talked in the spring and said that this is a great way to spotlight our kids and all the hard work that they put in and really showcase Thumb football. We have a lot to offer, and to be down here at Atwood is gonna be exciting for all of us.” - Millington coach Jason Germain

Night two of the Super Kicker Rodeo at the Tuscola County Fair will be getting underway in less than 30 minutes.

Clouds have help with the temperatures, so come on out and support all the riders, including numerous local ones.

Two North Branch seniors signed to continue their athletic and academic careers at St. Clair County Community College in Port Huron.

The Broncos' Rowan Conley will compete in cross-country and women's golf while Barkowska will be a member of the track and field program for the Skippers.
