Good Morning Sugarloafers! The bridge project went well, bridges are ready for installation this Summer. Trail 50 will be closed for the rest of the season due to bridge failure. The following trails were groomed this morning with classic tracks; Warming Hut, Snowbrook, Sunny Breeze, Moose Pond Loop and Pretty Bog. The following trails were groomed for skate skiing; Race Loop, Highland, Bobcat Alley, Bobcat Cutoff, Seven Bridges and S-Turns. It might be a rainy day, but there is still lots of fun to be had! We will be open for snowshoeing , Nordic skiing, retail and Bull Moose Café will open at 11AM.

www.wmur.com/article/video-climate-changes-most-northeast-ski-areas-may-not-survive-new-hampshire New Hampshire's WMUR reports on climate changes coming as they affect skiing. Australian ski industry was deeply concerned about their winters 30 years ago. Twenty years ago Western resorts sniffed at us Easterners with our need for 'artificial' snow. Ten years ago, few in the US ski biz were willing to talk about climate change. This year has been another winter of too much warmth & not enough plain old Made by Nature Snow. Getting harder & harder to ignore...... "We're seeing a lot of improvement in terms of the efficiency of the equipment and we're also seeing a lot of improvement in terms of how high that temperature that equipment will run in. But despite those advancements, Dr Alex Cantos, a climate researcher at UNH says because of the low temperatures needed to make snow at some point, the technology just won't be able to keep up and that means many Northeast resorts will be forced to close. But what our research shows is that even with the potential to make snow, that we're going to have such warm temperatures that only 15% of the ski areas that currently exist in the northeast and in southern Quebec will be open by the end of the century. That's a huge loss for recreation of course, but also economically from the hotels, restaurants and other businesses. Ski resorts are a half a billion dollar industry in New Hampshire and winters are not just getting warmer and wetter, they are shorter too. Just like what has happened this winter, we're still going to get plenty of storms but will also continue to notice a slow progression of fewer snowy seasons and the winter season itself will shrink due to warmer temperatures unless action is taken. And so it really depends on what we decide to do as a society um to reduce emissions because the worst case scenario is not inevitable, meaning the future of skiing in New Hampshire could very well depend on the energy choices people make in the coming decades."

We couldn't be more proud of our homegrown, groundbreaking double Gold Olympian. Seth deserves this not just because he's the best, but because his bright light on snowboarding attracted more attention & participants to partake in recreating on the slopes. That's priceless to us who make our living from this biz! Thanks, Seth!! Congrats!
