The city is experiencing a water leak this morning. The leak is in the area of E College St, between Tarpley St and Barrett Rd. Service in this area, including Rebecca Morris, Frances St, and Smith Ave, as well as the surrounding area, could be affected. A Public Works crew is on the scene and hopes to have repairs made as soon as possible.

Carrollton Youth Council Meeting Oct. 6th, 2025

The Youth Council (C*C) is a leadership development program for 9th-12th graders at Carrollton High School focused on learning about municipal government, developing future leadership, and contributing to the community by providing a youthful perspective to city decisions. Members must reside in Carrollton, maintain a 3.5 GPA and 95% attendance, and have no major discipline issues to join the group, which meets monthly to discuss community issues with city staff and learn about city government.

Villa Rica-based defense attorney Mac Pilgrim has filed a motion for a new trial following the sentencing of his client A.J. Scott this week.

The former state trooper was sentenced to 20 years with 10 to serve in prison for his role in a September 2015 2-vehcile crash in that resulted in the deaths of two teenagers and injury to two others. He was found guilty on five of the six charges brought by the state in August of 2025.

In seeking a new trial for his client, Pilgrim asserts that (1) ‘the verdict is contrary to the evidence, and without evidence to support it;’ (2) ‘the verdict is decidedly and strongly against the weight of the evidence;’ (3) ‘the verdict is contrary to the law and principles of justice and equity; (4) ‘Whether or not the state proved the defendant’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt, the evidence was nevertheless sufficiently close so as to warrant the Court to exercise to exercise its discretion to grant a new trial;’ and, (5) ‘The court committed error of law warranting the grant of a new trial.’

Pilgrim and Scott also request that a hearing be held about the Motion for a new Trial after appellate counsel has had reasonable time to particularize and amend the Motion with additional grounds.
