Celtic music is renowned for the prevalence of delightful music dealing with the supernatural and the changing seasons, and we have more than enough to sate your appetite for October-flavored music.

It's the first week of October. Leaves are changing, there's a cool edge to the last of the summer breeze, and like magic, pumpkin spice has suddenly infused everything. Katie Marie and Joe put together an hour of Celtic music to wave farewell to summer and look down the road towards winter. It's an ideal time to listen to a bit more mellow tracks as you snuggle into your sweater and sip warm cider by the window watching the leaves blow in the wind.

Almost a decade ago, performer Karan Casey was standing on stage at a festival and realized that out of the nineteen performers, she was the only woman. The FairPlé movement was born from that realization. Seeking equal representation in performances and broadcast, one of their slogans is "There is no limit on the space in our tradition: there is room for everyone." Katie Marie and Joe put together an hour of traditional Celtic music featuring women artists.

The artists this week: Harem Scarem; Trian; The Shee; Ann Currane; Bumblebees; Niamh Parsons; Scottish Fish; Solenn Lefeuvre & Gilles Le Bigot; Emer Mayock; Sarah Dinan; Winifred Horan, John Williams, Katie Grennan, Utsav Lal; Bridget Fitzgerald; and Sarah Bauhan.

It's time to get your hands dirty, because it's Labor Day! It not only ushers in the last gasp of summer, but the date also commemorates the common workers laboring to bring home a living wage. These songs and tunes celebrate those who work with their hands, whether they crew a ship, build roads, till the ground, or toil in the bowels of the earth, and the struggles they faced to earn dignity and a better life.

The artists this week: Molly's Revenge With Moira Smiley; Kathleen Keane; Frank Harte & Donal Lunny; Goitse; Padraig Rynne; Mick Moloney; Great Big Sea; Paddy O'Brien; Karan Casey; Kevin Burke; Arcady; The Bonny Men; Ed Miller; and Liz Carroll & John Doyle.

Around this time every year, the stretch of oppressively hot summer temperatures gets a few days too long: these are indeed the Dog Days of Summer. Traditional Celtic Music from Western Nevada and the High Sierra

High Country Celtic Radio is a weekly, one-hour Celtic Music program featuring the traditional music of Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Northern Spain, and the Isle of Man performed by artists across the world. Played on stations across the country, our show is a great addition to a non-commercial station looking to add a curated Celtic music show with male and female hosts.

High Country Celtic Radio strives for gender equality in our show’s playlists to give equal play to women artists in the spirit of the FairPlé movement. We self-rate our inclusiveness for each weeks’ show by calculating a “FairPlé score” where our goal is 40-60, showing a balanced blend of music performed by women or bands where women make up around half the group.

Would you like to get your Traditional Celtic music played on our show? We focus on acoustic Irish, Scottish, Breton, Welsh, Manx, and Galician/Asturian music, and we are always eager to audition new music and give it a spin on the air. Take a look at our playlist archives at https://highcountrycelticradio.com/category/episodes/ to hear if your music would be a good fit. Once we receive music, it may take two or three weeks to get it into rotation, as we usually record our shows in advance.

We can accept high quality digital files (WAV/FLAC/MP3 at least 256/44100) as well as physical CDs. Contact us for a dropbox location for digital files, or if mailing CDs, our address is :
