HS Insider helps young people in Southern California tell the high school experience. The digital platform empowers Southern California youth to tell the stories that matter to them and their communities. The program launched in November 2014 with 50 schools, focusing on high school sports. As the program has grown to over 200 schools and 2,000 student journalists from Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura Counties, it has expanded to tell every aspect of the high school experience. HS Insider also promotes collaboration through conferences, events, paid internships, and other educational opportunities. Hey everyone! My name is Fernando Leiva (he/him) and I’m an intern for High School Insider this summer. I recently graduated from Ulysses S. Grant HS and will be studying government at Harvard in the fall.

This is my third and final year with HSI, where I’ve covered topics ranging from Supreme Court decisions to arts and entertainment. It’s been a blast getting to work with some of the brightest student journalists in SoCal.

In my free time I enjoy reading fiction 📖 , finding the best sweet treats around the city 🍰, and traveling ✈️

Hi everyone!! My name is Elise Choi, but I typically go by Ellie. I’m a rising senior at Orange County School of the Arts 🎭🙌

I am going into my third year with the L.A. Times HS Insider this year! In the future, I hope to be a foreign correspondent, as I love to travel and learn new languages and cultures. I am thrilled to intern for HSI this summer!

In my free time, I love going to the beach 🏝️, eating froyo🍦, going to concerts 🎶, reading 📖, and doing yoga 🧘‍♀️.
