Casey, Illinois, was the place to be this weekend. Their lighted parade on Friday night and all the activities around town were so well done.
I had to grab a picture with my granddaughter who is under that Tigger costume. The photo was taken by one of those selfie stations and it was too far back so I had to zoom in. :)

Two days ago it was freezing cold, icy, and I had to cancel my craft show. ❄️
$160 booth fee gone.
Big projects finished and ready to sell… now stacked back in my house waiting for “next year.”

That used to be devastating to my business.
When I relied on craft shows as my full-time income, one bad weather weekend could wipe out an entire month of profit. The weather is never the same, it’s constantly changing, and it can turn a great show into a ghost town overnight.

Today I drove uptown to check everything out and as it warmed up, more people started to come out… but here’s the truth:

I’m not panicking anymore. I have a backup plan.

Because I started selling online in 2018, all of those items I would have sold at the show?
They’ll be sold tomorrow night instead. 🙌

📅 Sunday, December 7
⏰ 7:30 PM CST
📍 Live on Virtual Home Decor Marketplace

I’d love to invite you to come watch the sale — not just to shop (though of course I hope you find something you love 😉), but to see how an online sale can turn a “disaster weekend” into one of the best money-making days of the month.

What could have been a total loss is now just a pivot.

Do you ever check your memories in Facebook?

It’s the best place to find old photos and since I’ve had my business page since 2010 there are a lot

This is an old record player that still worked. I think I repainted it at least twice. I even painted a record to display in it.

Sometimes when we are tired we just need to allow ourselves permission to take a nap. And, I did an hour now its 7:30 at night and I have canvas orders to get out tomorrow and a tutorial for Painting for Profits to finish tonight. The struggle is real.

But in my memories today up popped some pictures of Christmas projects from the past. Somehow just looking at these pictures makes me tired knowing how many hours I spent on them.

f you’re a crafter, painter, or maker and you’re tired down to your bones right now… this is for you. 💔🎄

Fourth quarter is supposed to be “our big chance.”
But a lot of us are sitting here wondering:

Did I even profit after all this work?

Why do the holidays feel like another deadline instead of something to enjoy?

Why do I still feel like I need “one more thing” before I’m allowed to rest?

Meanwhile the world says a 9–5 is “hard,”
but honestly? Sometimes that looks easy compared to being the boss, the artist, the shipper, the tech person, and the cheerleader all in one.

I see you.
I’ve been the one up half the night painting, thinking “If I just add one more sale, one more live, one more project…”
And then December shows up and I’m too depleted to enjoy any of it.

Here’s the truth I’m sitting with today:

Being a maker is hard work.
It’s also allowed to be enough.

Enough money.
Enough projects.
Enough hustle.

We are allowed to decide:

What actually profits – in dollars and in peace.

What gets cut next year.

When we close the laptop and pick up a blanket instead of a paintbrush.

If you’re exhausted, it doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’ve been carrying too much, for too long, and your body is asking to be part of the conversation.

Over the next few weeks, I’m going to be talking more about:

what’s really working,

what’s getting dropped,

and how to build a craft business that makes money without stealing your joy every holiday.

If that hits your heart, drop a 💛 in the comments so you know you’re not the only one.

Our Story

Hi. My name is Teri Burton owner of The Robin's Nest. Painting has been my full time job for the past 19 years. My husband and I travel to various craft shows selling our handmade, handpainted items. I am currently teaching my painting techniques to local residents in the hopes of inspiring others to touch upon their creative side. If you are wanting to host a party message me. People love paint parties especially when they can paint a wood piece. When I teach I want your project to be amazing to you and I will help you along the way. I am starting a new venture doing lives on Facebook in order to show others who aren’t in the area to enhance or start their own painting projects. I will also be offering my painted items for sale as I make them and will be setting up a website soon. I currently have a booth in Casey, Illinois, at Dollars & Sense and participate in craft shows throughout Illinois, Indiana, and Missouri. My mission is to decorate your home with original artwork and signs that you will love to display.
