Today is a bit of an end of an era for Flying Note Shorties. When we first formed in 2022, we didn’t start with Pembroke Welsh Corgis. Our beginning started with the sweetest, smartest fluffiest Auggie puppy named Layne. Her genetics favor more Aussie than corgi, but either way she is one heck of a gal! At 4 months old she was already interested in livestock, and no fear was her middle name! Her sire was known to be a gritty cow dog who had no problem latching onto the face of any bull who didn’t comply with him. Layne seemed to inherit his fierce presence with our ranch animals as well! One time our grown pigs decided to escape their enclosure, we were up with them trying to figure out the best plan of attack to get them back in. Layne at the time was 3 weeks shy of delivering her litter of puppies. She was outside with the other dogs behind a 6 foot fence. She must have heard the commotion, because before you knew it she was up there with us! She had never shown she could scale a fence before, but that day she did. She walked right up to those pigs growling and snarling at them, and walked them right into their pen. My husband and I just looked at each other dumbfounded! A few weeks later she delivered 10 puppies unassisted.
Layne has earned and upheld her status as alpha dog with her pack. Every single dog knows she is in charge, and they know what she says is law. She rightfully owns this status. She was the very first one. The official start of Flying Note Shorties. Layne will never ever leave us, she will live out her golden years on the ranch, her home.
This morning she and Luna Maria went in for their spay surgeries. Both girls did amazing, and I will be picking them up this afternoon. Although our chapter of Auggies is closed for good now, we will always remember and forever value our beginnings of where it all started. A teeny tiny little fluffy tri color Auggie named Layne. ❤️
