Brian and Erik vanished today. Not actually vanished, but they were deep in the trenches, scouting the perfect backdrop for our next Story Launch project. You know, the kind of place that can make or break a story. No pressure, guys. 😉 Let's just say, the fate of the narrative rests on their shoulders (and their keen eyes for detail).

Some shoots are smooth sailing
others are literally on a boat in the heat of the Peruvian coast. đŸŒŠâ˜€ïž Filming an episode of Music Voyager in Paracas meant capturing fishermen harvesting fresh scallops—while battling rolling waves, shifting light, and, of course, the temptation to grab a bite of the freshest seafood imaginable. đŸŠȘ

Filming on water has its own set of challenges: balancing cameras, stabilizing shots, and making sure the crew doesn’t go overboard (literally and figuratively). But when you’re working in a place this stunning, it’s all worth it.

Our next shoot is February 8—a simple project, not a blockbuster budget, but guess what? It still requires meticulous prep.

✅ 2 cameras ready đŸŽ„
✅ Tripod & slider packed 🎬
✅ Light panel tested 💡
✅ Batteries charged 🔋 (because dead batteries = heartbreak)
✅ Media formatted đŸ’Ÿ (because "Card Full" errors are the stuff of nightmares)

Clients see the final product—the polished video, the seamless edits. No matter the size of the shoot, pre-production is where the magic starts. Because the more to prepare, the better the final product; O! and fewer last-minute panics. 😅

💡 What’s the one thing you always triple-check before a shoot?

Big cameras, massive rigs, and full lighting setups look impressive, but they’re not always necessary. The best filmmakers don’t just know how to use gear—they know when not to use it.

It’s about choosing the right tools for the right job—factoring in location, time of day, mobility, and budget. A handheld camera might capture the intimacy of a moment better than a massive cinema rig. Natural light can sometimes outshine the most elaborate lighting setups.

At Story Launch, we believe strategy beats excess—our experience filming across the world has taught us that. It’s not about having all the gear, it’s about knowing exactly what you need to get the perfect shot.

💡 What’s one piece of gear you can’t live without on a shoot? Let us know in the comments!

I’ve been on countless sets, but this one was different. The Sistine Chapel. No room for a big crew, no elaborate setups—just a small team, a camera, and the overwhelming sense that we were standing inside a masterpiece.

As a director, you’re always looking for the perfect shot, the right angle, the best way to tell a story. But under Michelangelo’s brushstrokes, I realized: some stories don’t need to be retold, just respected.

A career-defining moment, a silent space, and a reminder that the greatest stories have already been painted in the stars
or, in this case, on a ceiling.

If you could film anywhere in the world, where would it be? Drop your dream location in the comments! 🎬✹

Every great video starts with a conversation. But how you light, frame, and shoot an interview can completely transform its impact. There are infinite ways to approach an interview setup—soft, natural light for an intimate feel, dramatic contrast for an intense tone, or sleek, modern lighting for a tech-driven subject.

For this 2023 shoot in Atlanta, we were documenting the world of NFTs and cryptocurrency, where the visual aesthetic needed to reflect the futuristic and digital nature of the topic. Choosing the right lighting and composition wasn’t just about making the subject look good—it was about reinforcing the story we were telling.

đŸŽ„ When you watch interviews in documentaries, do you notice how the lighting and framing affect the mood? Let’s talk visual storytelling in the comments! 👇

Filming ballet is an art in itself, but filming it with a drone inside a studio? That’s next-level.

For Music Voyager, Tara Lee of the Atlanta Ballet delivered a mesmerizing performance while Camera Op Luke Askelson captured every delicate movement. But the real show-stopper? Drone Operator Ron Gonzalez maneuvering a flying camera through the space while Tara danced beneath it. The result? Some of the most stunning footage we’ve ever captured.

There’s something magical about the way movement meets motion picture—when technology and artistry come together to tell a story beyond words.

What are some creative ways you've used or seen a drone used for video production?

By combining a minimalist setup with careful planning, we created images that highlight the full spectrum of Lei Kava’s beverages—from fruity slushies that scream summer refreshment to traditional kava that offers a calming escape. The white background not only made each color pop but also gave a clean, modern look that fits perfectly on digital menus and social media feeds.
