Every year, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame recognizes and inducts athletes and individuals who have had a profound impact upon sports in their communities, region or the entire state. Monett has its fair share of representation. The Cubs’ football program, Dennis Heim, Mike McClure and Jim Klousia have all been inducted as official members of the Hall, and this month, they will be joined by another familiar name and face – Dave Beckett. https://buff.ly/pSlLNRc

In 2021, the Kansas City Chiefs were forced to post an announcement on their video board that, due to the fact that the offense had scored so many points in its game, they no longer had any fireworks left to shoot after additional scores. Monett’s football team had flirted with the idea of adding fireworks to be displayed after each score this season, a move they ultimately backed away from. https://buff.ly/j3ungYt

SPORTS COLUMN: In a time when schools are having difficulty finding talented coaches, Monett just turned to its own ranks. The best thing about this brief acknowledgment of Monett’s achievement is that the athletic department makes up just one small fraction of everything that the Monett Alumni Family has and will achieve.

For the last 75 years, on the Sunday prior to Labor Day, an event has taken place in Seneca that has routinely drawn in excess of 10 percent of the Little Town on the Border’s listed population.
