🏡 Building Update — When Cracks Become a Concern
Building a house has definitely taught us that sometimes you have to stop, ask questions, and bring in another professional when something just doesn’t feel right.
As our house has continued to go up, we’ve noticed a lot of cracking in our new concrete foundation. Some cracking in concrete can be completely normal, but with the amount we were seeing, we started becoming concerned about the overall integrity of the foundation.
And considering this foundation is literally what our entire home is sitting on, this wasn’t something we were willing to just shrug off.
So, we hired NW Geo Tech to come out and professionally assess the foundation and help determine what is happening, whether the cracking is within an acceptable range, and whether there are any concerns that need to be addressed.
At this point, we aren’t jumping to conclusions. We want facts, professional opinions, and documentation before deciding what—if anything—needs to happen next.
This build has already taught us SO much about advocating for ourselves, asking questions, getting second opinions, and not being afraid to have work evaluated when we have concerns.
It may cost more money and add another step to the process, but we would much rather investigate something now than discover a serious problem years down the road.
Hopefully, we’ll get some answers and some peace of mind soon. 🤞
We’ll keep sharing what we learn along the way because the pretty finished-house pictures are only one tiny part of building a home. This is the real side of building too. 🏡🔨
