On one of my thrifting runs, I scored a whole bag of handmade crocheted snowflakes — and every single one is different! I don’t think there’s a matching pair in the bunch.

I originally planned to add them to the tree in my shop, but as I was decorating my own tree, I realized exactly what it had been missing. I downsized a few years ago to this King of Christmas tree that looks beautifully natural, and those perfectly spaced branches were just begging for something special.

Well… these “new to me” snowflakes were it. I am absolutely in love. ❤️

I hope the crafter who made them somehow knows how much joy her handiwork is bringing me this Christmas.

Mondays lately have turned into my own version of “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”—one thing leads to another!

I planned to put up the tree, but first I had to stream-vac a muddy boot print right where the tree was going to sit. Once that was cleaned up, the tree went up easily and I got most of the decorating done. I went hunting for the snowflakes, but I’m pretty sure those ended up in my shop storage last week.

A load of laundry brought me near the craft room… and, well, you know how that goes. I puttered around looking at all the projects I still need to finish, but dinner wasn’t going to start itself—so I paused the crafting, braised a roast, and slid it into the oven. Then, of course, I wandered right back to the craft room.

I actually finished quite a few projects today:
✨ A framed angel with glittered wings
✨ Winter bunnies
✨ A vintage silver tray (still needs an epoxy layer, but I love the decoupage and glitter!)
✨ A record makeover
✨ A sweet deer diorama using vintage Homeco deer
✨ And an angel mirror that turned out so pretty!

By the time the roast was done, my projects were wrapped up and the house smelled amazing. My family got a delicious meal, and I got a burst of crafty satisfaction.

And if you give me a burst of crafty satisfaction…
well, I’ll probably want to put up the Christmas tree.

Chalking

Hello! I am Cindy Russell, your Independent Chalk Couture Designer. I discovered Chalk Couture at a time when I need it. I was recovering from a year of chemo treatments for AML Leukemia. That year, I lost all my hair (which explains the current state of things) and spent most of my time in the hospital or on my sofa surfing the Internet which is how I was introduced to Chalk Couture.

I have always been artsy and crafty. In high school (many years ago), I took every art and photography class available. During this time, I did a ton of silk screening which is exactly the process Chalk Couture uses! Back in the day, I used a huge wooden frame and changing the screen was not easy or quick! Chalk Couture has developed a great solution for quick and easy silk screening which works so much better than using plain stencils!

Prior to Chalk Couture, I spent my life as a middle school science teacher who taught for a school system outside of Annapolis, Maryland. My AML and treatments left me with diminished energy levels and no stamina to teach adolescent children and I was forced to retire in February 2020 right before the pandemic.

Luckily, I found Chalk Couture, fell in love and started my small business! I signed as a Designer after only two days because I knew it was perfect for me! Over the last few years, when we would be bantering about what we wanted to ‘do when we grow up’, I would always say I want to have my own video channel and do crafty things and decorate all day long! Who knew? It is my current reality! I feel like my world has come full circle and there was definitely some Divine intervention. I kicked cancer’s butt and now I am doing exactly what I LOVE!
