"Feel free to notice any place of tension, create some stillness, and linger there."

The Pilates instructor I did not intend to encounter this morning painted these words on my heart as we stretched.

Notice any place of tension...
Create some space...
Linger there...

This week has been full of places of tension. And even though they have felt unwelcome, I have been doing my best to lean into them, just like that moment in the stretch where you feel the tug and can't seem to imagine where it came from, but know from the pull that those parts of yourself need attention.

I have been doing my best to let myself feel the tense places, deeply. To experience the hard and the happy, sometimes laid right on top of each other. To create some space for myself and linger where it hurts, hoping that if I do, my body won't betray me and the release of my emotions will open my heart to something beautiful.

Here's to noticing, creating space, and lingering...❀️

Super grateful for ashes to go today, especially as I make my way to the airport!

I'm reminded that even these quick moments are holy.

The priest blessed me, making the sign of the cross on my forehead with with her thumb, having dipped it into ashes mixed with oil, and she declared to me what is true of all of us - we were dust and we will make our return there once again.

Amen.

This is not a gluten free or Celiac account (though, there are tons of amazing ones on this app!), but I saw earlier this week that it was National Gluten-Free Day (there really is a day for everything, lol!).

Almost exactly 8 years ago, after struggling with weird symptoms for basically my entire life, I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease. It felt staggering to finally have answers for what was going on in my body.

With the diagnosis came complex emotions and experiences. Grief, relief, sadness, and a tiny window of understanding into what it's like to have an invisible, but vital need.

My diagnosis changed my perspective on so many things, one being church. What does it mean to be included? What does it feel like to be excluded. I realize it's small in the grand scheme of things, but I still get weepy when I can participate in communion at a service. What I used to take for granted, eating in any setting, is now something I am required to be over the top thoughtful about or risk damage to my person. And when a congregation has attended to that, I am wildly grateful! Just a small wafer, but a huge signal to me that I am welcomed.

I wonder how many others among us are walking around with invisible needs? How can I be attuned to not their participation and not miss their presence?

(Exhausted) birthday selfie! πŸ₯³

We made it - after a full day, bookended with *first day of school* drop offs and pick ups (familiar to many of us August babies, way back to kindergarten) πŸ«πŸ‘©β€πŸ«πŸšΈ, a birthday dinner by awaits me, along with a cake πŸŽ‚ made by my sweet, precious daughter. So grateful for another year behind me πŸ₯‚ and for new adventures the next one has in store!

Years ago, when I first started working on this collaboration, I had no idea its release would be so timely 🀎 Migration is a subject that touches all of us, but it's no secret the topic has become an incredibly polarizing one lately, especially among U.S. Christians.

This study asks us to pause and explore some of the biblical narratives of migration. It asks questions about God's interactions with migrant peoples. And it gives opportunities to reflect on our curiosities collectively.

Whatever your current context, I am confident you and your group will find something meaningful to hold on to in this study. The people who shared their personal stories and expertise through the text, art, video, and spoken word did so generously for our sakes. My prayer is that in these pages, we will find compassion, hope, and wisdom as we study how God cares for all God's people, specifically those who experience migration.
