One thing we can all agree on: consistency is everything. The Sound Box has been a second home to many, and for the last 4+ years, Dstreetmc (Dan Clark) has been a regular fixture here. Whether it was once a week or twice, month after month, we stay locked in. While this isn’t goodbye, we’re definitely going to miss having him around the studio as he makes the move to Utah. Before he heads out, we had to get in one last session, and it was a special one. This time, we tested a couple mics he had lying around to find the best match for his voice. After some critical listening between the AKG and the RØDE, the RØDE took the win. The AKG felt a bit harsh on his tone, even though we love the C414 in our mic locker. Every voice/mic combo hits different. (Our go to is the UA Sphere due to its incredible emulations, and versatility) Since we liked the RØDE’s midrange and top end response, we tracked the whole song with it. New single “Reasons” by coming soon 👀🔥 We’re also setting him up with remote Pro Tools sessions and a custom template so when inspiration strikes, it’s easy to capture clean vocals and send them back for mixing and mastering.
