Cedar Rapids Fire Department is currently battling a detached garage fire in the 1400 block of N St SW in Cedar Rapids. There appears to be no injuries at this time. No word on how the fire started at this time.

CAR VS TRAIN- Cedar Rapids police are currently working a car vs train accident after a chase through downtown Cedar Rapids. Johnson county sheriff’s were also seen on scene. We are uncertain of exactly where the chase started. The condition of the driver(s) and the reason why the individual fled from law enforcement is unknown at this time but CR Nightwatch will post an update if/when more information is released. Please stay clear of the scene to let emergency crews work throughly and safely.

Did you see some tow trucks cruising through the town with lights flashing and flags flying? Are you wondering what that was all about? Well here’s why! After speaking with one of the Tow Truck Operators, he told me that all this was in motion of the Slow Down Move Over Law! After speaking with him for a little bit he had stated that this is a law that needs attention brought to it. In a AAA report it states that 1 tow truck operator is killed every 6 days while assisting a stranded motorist on the side of the roadway! The operator had mentioned that himself as well as a few other operators have been struck in 1 way or another while assisting motorists. If you see emergency lights flashing or a civilian vehicle parked with its hazard lights on, Slow Down and Move Over so everyone can return home safely at night!
