We’re starting Season 5 with a conversation with Iowa State Representative Lindsay James !

Lindsay has served in the Iowa House since 2019 and currently represents District 71 in Dubuque. She’s also an ordained Presbyterian pastor, a mom of two, and a former college chaplain. Before joining the legislature, her community involvement included serving as president of Irving Elementary School’s PTA and chairing the Dubuque Community Development Advisory Commission.

Now, she’s running for Congress, bringing her experience in the Iowa House and her positions on issues including housing, healthcare costs, and corporate accountability to the campaign.

There’s plenty to talk about, and you’ll get to hear more about Lindsay, her story, what shaped her path to public service, and the issues she’s focused on in our Season 5 premiere. 🎧

Four seasons, a lot of conversations, and a lot of different perspectives. 🎙️

Over Seasons 1–4, I’ve had the chance to talk with people from all kinds of backgrounds — business owners, community leaders, creatives, advocates, professionals, and neighbors with stories worth sharing.

Every guest brings something different to the table. We’ve talked about careers, community, personal growth, challenges, big changes, and plenty of things in between.

That’s what I’ve always wanted Not Your Average Neighbor to be: a place to share good news, have open conversations, hear different perspectives, and maybe leave each episode thinking about something a little differently.

And now, we’re getting ready to do it all again for Season 5. 🎉

✨ Sometimes all it takes is one person saying, “You’d be good at that.”

Adam Meier was already journaling, writing jokes, and turning little stories into something funny when his mom gave him the push he didn’t know he needed. 🎤

He didn’t get on stage immediately—it took another couple of years to figure out where to go and who to talk to. But that conversation planted the seed: “Well… now I have to try.” 😂

😂 Who decided Tuesday had to be the worst day of the week?

In Cedar Rapids, one local open mic is turning an ordinary Tuesday night into a packed room of comedians, comedy lovers, and people standing shoulder-to-shoulder just looking for a good laugh. 🎤

For Adam Meier, it’s become one of his favorite places to perform—and proof that sometimes all you need to get through the week is a room full of comedy. 🙌

Llamas? At the funeral home?

Yes, indeed! The llamas of Prairie Patch Farm are making a therapeutic visit to Journeys on Monday, September 14th at 2:30 p.m.

Come join us for an informational session on how these special animals are used for therapeutic purposes, and then take your time hanging out with, snuggling, and photographing the llamas.

Journeys is a bereavement social group hosted at The Legacy Center at Murdoch-Linwood on the second Monday of each month from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Each meeting, we are joined by a community expert who helps introduce new and innovative ways to process and companion your individual grief journey.

Attending Journeys is always free, and is open to anyone in our community. No matter if your family was served by another funeral provider. No matter if your loss was two months ago or twenty years ago. There is no cutoff date for grief, and there is no cutoff date to how long or how often you can attend our sessions.

No reservations are required. Come as you are. All are welcome!
