Happy Diwali from IMD!

Diwali is a South Asian holiday celebrating the triumph of light over darkness starting this Saturday, November 14th and is celebrated for five days. Also known as the Festival of Lights, Diwali is observed by lighting traditional diyas, enjoying fireworks, decorating their houses with rangoli, visiting family and much more.

Happy Lunar New Year of the Rat!

Lunar New Year falls on Saturday, January 25, ushering in the Year of the Rat. Significant in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Korean cultures, Lunar New Year is a fifteen day celebration that culminates with the Lantern Festival on February 8.

People born during the Year of the Rat are said to be optimistic and energetic, and well-liked by all, although they can be very stubborn.

Happy Holi & Spring!

Holi, also known as the festival of colors, is a Hindu festival held at the start of Spring to celebrate new beginnings. Traditionally, revelers throw vibrant colors at each other in the form of dry powders called Gulal (or Abeer). There is music, singing, and dancing as everyone decks themselves in all the colors of the rainbow. Other traditions include the lighting of a grand pyre topped with the figure of the demon Holika, as well as eating the special sweet gujiya - a dumpling filled with khoya and dried fruits.
