Start thinking about displaying your book(s) and having a presence at the 2025 Mountains & Plains Independent Booksellers Association FallCon at the Renaissance Hotel in Denver October 6-7 by partic**ating in C**A's Book and Author Showcase at MPIBA FallCon. Registration opportunities for C**A members will be announced soon. C**A will have two 6ft tables and two author table rounds for author signings along with new exhibit table signage.

Who's been to a recent book signing at an independent bookstore like Tattered Cover Book Store? We should be supporting our fellow C**A members when they have book signing events and will be posting announcements about our members' scheduled events. . Celebrity magician Penn Jillette was recently at Tattered Cover in Denver promoting his new book, Felony Juggler. As it happens, Penn graduated from the same high school in Massachusetts as C**A President, Mike Daniels and both happened to be voted "Class Wit" by their respective graduating class. Penn's family's house was located on Mike's paper route! It's a small world.

Are you a C**A member with a published book that you might like to discuss with school students or perhaps members of a civic group such as Rotary or Kiwanis clubs as an "expert" on the subject you've written about in your book? Then you want to learn more about the C**A Education and Literacy Foundation's Visiting Authors program. Many C**A members have long been frustrated in regard to getting their books into Barnes & Noble stores but as with everything, it's a matter of knowing how to navigate the system. Years ago, C**A had a relationship with B&N and "C**A Stars" were invited to B&N and Borders stores to speak about their books. The policies of an organization's management matter. The only constant is change.

While presses of all stripes are glad that James Daunt has put the largest bricks-and-mortar bookstore chain in the U.S. back on its financial feet, many indies feel deliberately left out of the retailer’s revival.

The recent moves to terminate NEA literary grants and the proposed elimination of cultural institutions such as the NEA, NEH, and IMLS present significant threats to . Calling local authors - application for World of Words closes in Friday, May 23! This event will be at Central Library and is part of Global Fest happening Saturday, June 14 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is for all local authors who would like to showcase their work to the public, including the opportunity to circulate the room, meet other authors and do a quick short reading.

VERY cool! The C**A Education and Literacy Foundation is doing some great work. If you're an author, publisher or publishing business professional and not already a member of the Collective of Independent Publishers and Authors - C**A you should consider joining. As a C**A member you can volunteer to partic**ate with C**A ELF's programs. C**A ELF is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit charitable organization with programs such as the Young Authors League, Classroom Literacy Support, Visiting Authors, Book Benefit and Shelter Reading Buddies which were all involved in this literacy project with West Jefferson Elementary. West Jefferson Elementary students published Conifer Cares, a heartfelt book featuring stories and art about adoptable pets, in partnership with the Evergreen Animal Protective League and C**A Education and Literacy Foundation.
