We return to Southern Lehigh with several recognitions from at today. A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS to our state champion Morgan Downing, who placed first in Editorial Writing! Additionally, the Spotlight was one of six student newspapers in PA to earn the gold award for excellence in journalism. And Alexis Behrens was recognized among an outstanding group of applicants for Student Journalist of the Year. GO SPARTANS!

ENTERTAINMENT | Freshman Rebecca Grum writes about the end of Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour.

After spanning five different continents, Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has finally come to an end, leaving off in Vancouver Canada. The tour created a cultural moment; even Swifties who did not attend the concert found ways to get involved.

“It was always something to look forward to,” freshman and two-time Eras Tour attendee Pearl Bio said, reflecting on her experience watching the live streams.

Currently, any club at Southern Lehigh can reward its members with a cord, however, only a few take advantage of this opportunity. This small action will ensure the graduation ceremony better reflects the diverse interests of the student body.

SPORTS | Seniors Charlie Petri, Gianna Cusumano, and Kelcie Wagner report on the girls’ and boys’ basketball 2025 winter season.

Although both teams had a slow start to their season, they are confident that their communication will help them bounce back. They plan to achieve this by reflecting on their game performance and emphasizing team bonding.

“We started by playing the hardest teams in the league,” said Gluck, “but we should be able to get some more wins.”

SPORTS | The Spotlight Editorial Staff covers Southern Lehigh football’s historic success, becoming the first team to make it to the state semifinal playoff.

The football team won the PIAA District XI 4A championship over Bethlehem Catholic and advanced to states. However, they were defeated by Bonner-Prendie in the semifinals. The team is still grateful for their success and record-breaking season.

“I am very proud of where we have come from. We have worked really hard in the offseason, and every year before that; this just shows our hard work,” said senior Gijs Fooji.

FEATURES | Junior Ryan Stehlik writes about Mr. Matt Spengler’s first year as the Southern Lehigh High School athletic director.

Mr. Spengler became the athletic director after working in Emmaus. He is excited to not only contribute to students’ athletic success but also their personal growth.

“You need to have strong work ethic in anything you do, try the best you can in anything,” said Mr. Spengler.

The book is the third installment of Toni Adeyemi’s Orisha series. Hodges explained that the book was too fast-paced and introduced too many flat characters.
