It is wild that this month marks a decade since we took our first cross country roadtrip with . It feels like it was last week, but man so much life has happened since then. If you’re thinking of doing a cross country roadtrip I have to insist you do it with friends, I also suggest this route. The photos and the route all credit goes to .co. Start in NYC, a garage in Chelsea to pick up the car. Head west towards Hershey, PA. Buy chocolate. Continue on to Pittsburgh, check out the food there it has a surprisingly good food scene and visit the Andy Warhol museum. Keep heading west towards Cleveland and pick up a leather tote. View that Great Lake. Continue west towards Chicago. Go to the zoo. See another lake. Then head towards the Plains. See a John Deere or three. Look at a buffalo, but do not touch. Continue west towards Denver, skip the Cheesecake Factory and remember the altitude makes the high hit harder. Continue west. Giggle a lot. See the snow on the continental divide. Now you’re gonna go to Moab and you’re going to start a marathon of national parks. Canyons, Arches, Zion are all a must. Do. Them. All. Visit monument valley too. Head to Vegas, look for Deborah Vance. Stay at the Diva. Don’t ask, just do it. Drop one of your friends off at the airport so he can make a random move to Georgia. Continue on. Windows down, blasting the soundtrack to Elizabethtown at full volume. Screaming come pick me up as the sunsets somewhere near Big Bear. You’re going to end the trip on the Santa Monica Pier, that part it very important.

I am about four months behind on editing, but I always have the novel idea that I’ll post in real time, which seemingly isn’t ever gonna happen. So, three weeks after arriving back to the US and three weeks before returning to the UK the Scotland photos are finally getting edited! I’ll have a proper guide soon, but for now, a preview!

I am not one for camping, but I do love a cabin. When I came across on my FYP I knew I had to go. A remote part of Scotland that feels like time doesn’t exist was a dream come to life. Lambs on the one lane road leading to the cabin. Views of the loch that sits just feet away from the front door. Floor to ceiling windows, plenty of exploring to be done, and just the right amount of space for a very cozy experience. This is the sort of place you take a lover and totally disconnect. Collect tumbled glass on the shore. Explore the endless nature. Simply go to exist.

Let’s try something new. So yesterday was the first day of my first trip abroad in two years. Now you know I travel across the US like a long haul trucker, Peterbuilt sponsor me, but I hardly ever go outside the US—I don’t like travel and working alone. This trip though, my friend told me I had to. She called one day back in the winter and my best friend was in my car (we were doing some long haul up the east coast) and he invited himself (a major win for me). So here we are, three men and an oversized headed to an embroidery retreat down on Lake Windermere (where the poets go to die). Yesterday we landed in Edinburgh and immediately headed for the backroads….catch me on an interstate if you can. Well, fine, we started at a just outside Edinburgh for their breakfast buffet….wed been told it was the Scotland equivalent to a breakfast at the , we were not led wrong. From there, and I admit I am not the driver of this XC 90 but I am the photographer looking for a bucolic thrill, we headed south towards the border. A request was made to see Hadrians Wall, the Roman era wall that defended the far reaches of the Roman Empire from The North. We stopped at Housesteads Fort and met all the sheep. The Fort is in the middle of a sheep pasture so I suppose this is where I realize I didn’t take a single photo of the fort cause I was excited by the sheep. On our way to Hadrians Wall we stopped at Harmony Garden in Melrose (Scotland) to tour the vegetable as I’m always drawn to vegetable gardens. Day one ends in Lake Windermere but that gets its own post so I can put the song on it.

Last summer I visited …five miles down a one lane road somewhere in the shadows of Hunter Mountain. It is a special place where cell phone service is about as comedic of a thought as Ernestine Tomlin on the operator line. Spruceton Inn is a place you go to be in the wild, not luxury escapism spa treatment like some of the lux style resorts of the Catskills…instead this a place that thrives on keeping it simple, clutter free, and quiet. Quiet is the word I’d use to describe this place. Many go there to write or create, a place to leave the noise and chaos of the cities and exchange them with the sounds of nothing….except the creeks and birds and frogs. I’m convinced the light is forever golden there.
