Just lamenting my own dysfunctional life choices
I will never be a real $$$ painter šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø Hired to paint a rental apartment with graffiti. Like every ā€œpre-throwaway cultureā€ architectural relic that crosses my path I could not help myself needing to save this door from the idiot who rolled one coat of rust color paint no primer straight over the wood and hardware. Told owner graffiti could not be scrubbed off but Iā€™d repaint the doors for $150 then proceeded to put an insane 20 hours into them.

Sanded, wood filler gouges, BIN primed, painted with Glidden Farm & Implement alkyd enamel, rolled on with foam / leveled with 4ā€ Corona Ox hair. 3 coats with #0000 steelwool in between (these doors should still look like this 2wks after the apocalypse šŸ˜†). Resurfaced and buffed these gorgeous solid brass pocket handles. It hurts my soul to think everything in America used to be made to last longer than the 4th quarter shareholders meeting.

Painted these stripes in my hallway, just wanted to share.I know they arenā€™t perfectly straight. I used a laser level and side by side taping method. Iā€™m pretty happy with them though! I still need to repaint the doors, ceiling and trim though.

This is how my house looks after a single coat
I hired a guy and his crew (highly recommended) and Iā€™m worried

I know itā€™s just the first coat but a ton of the sanding and prep work is highly visible, thereā€™s some bubbling which they marked to fix, and when I asked him if it was matte or eggshell he saidā€¦ā€¦ Satinā€¦

I thought it was a pretty standard thing to paint matte on exterior? Now itā€™s going to be glossier and imperfections will be even more noticeable

Am I overreacting? I need to know if I should talk to them before they do the second coat, or just trust the process.

TLDR:

Visible scratches and indents after first coat of housepaintā€¦ normal or?
