Meet Rollo, the first goat born in the Weyr. He will remain the most adorable kid, ever born, and has grown into this handsome, affectionate guy.

The parakeets fly above the quail in the aviary for most of the year, everyone gets along fine, but in November as the weather turns, they need to be moved inside, which means cages. When dear friends of the Weyr, CathynMark Buffum were here this year, a colony cage with custom base and trays was built, giving the birds a bit more space for free movement. No...parakeets are not a homestead staple, but, they're pretty cool.

I can't with these two. We have perimeter fencing but the pigs are trained to wire so that they can be moved to different areas more easily. Dwight & Sherry, learned early, that with a quick enough sprint they can make it under the wire and spend their days as adventure pigs. Dwight's days as a roaming pasture puppy are sadly coming to a close as he's growing faster than his sister-his nose is a wire height. Yikes! 😁

Weren't we cute, with that first little non-essential rain barrel? They are expanding!
This acreage was bare land, so we quickly hooked into municipal water and ran waterlines--until we could have a well drilled. We were Not expecting to be knocked back by drilling a well that provided a salt-brined liquid, unsafe to drink or irrigate with. It happens when the natural underground supply has been contaminated through the waste of injection oil drilling, and, that drilling does not have to be occurring close-by.
If you've ever paid a water bill, you can imagine our cost for supplying the land and animals with metered water. So, yet again, we're having to get creative.
It's not fun, it's not cheap, but it's necessary. Stay grateful and don't take your water for granted!
